I think I'm going to give up on PT Anderson. I used to be a total fanboy. Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, There Will be Blood. These are among some of my all time favorites. Then Master, then Inherent Vice, then this. Maybe he's getting more and more esoteric. Or maybe I'm just not getting him. But I think maybe our love affair is over.

Going to see the sequel to an apparent children’s movie about an animated bear may not be high on the priority list, but I’d strongly urge you to reconsider. Paddington 2 is excellent. Lots of humor for all ages, a nice story, and some entertaining performances, including Hugh Grant (he’s said that his role as an over-the-hill, narcissistic actor was a bit of typecasting), Brendan Gleeson (as the hilarious Knuckles McGinty) and my avatar. You don’t need to see the first Paddington, although I suppose it would help. We took the PH family and watching with grandkids enhanced the experience, but I recommend it with or without the cover of youth. It has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating with good reason.

I thought it sucked... on the other hand my wife loved it. I never had a high opinion of P. T. Barnum and his snake oil so I guess I was biased going in. Nevertheless, the movie has made close to $800M so it is a hit in that respect (the Last Jedi is over $1.3B).

Oops, you're right... mixed it up with' Jumanji'. Which is another movie that has made a surprisedly amount of money considering that it wasn't all that good (like Last Jedi and Showman).

Saw the Three Billboards movie last night. Loved it. Best film in a year for me. Great acting. Great dialogue. Going in, I was worried it could be boring, with not enough story for a two hour movie. But it was gripping.

Nope.

I used to negotiate with my wife. "Honey, if you take one for the team and take the kids to _____ while I am on this business trip, I will make it up to you by ______."

But when I lost I was at least able to get a good nap. I can sleep pretty well at theaters (high five to Moliere!).

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I thought this was funny and maybe something to consider.

If you ever need a way to deduce whether or not a person is a sociopath, just show them Paddington 2 and gauge their emotional response. If they neither laugh nor cry, they have more than likely been torturing small animals for pleasure before watching this delightful family film with you.

Some kids movies are good to great (several Pixar movies and Paddington 2, I promise) while others are dreck, so you learn to call your shots as I did after two hours of hell on earth aka The Pokémon Movie.

Saw the Three Billboards movie last night. Loved it. Best film in a year for me. Great acting. Great dialogue. Going in, I was worried it could be boring, with not enough story for a two hour movie. But it was gripping.

It’s among my top picks for the year. My initial reaction was more of the “what did I just see?” variety, but it’s a movie I thought about for several days after, which for me is a sign of a good, even great, movie. Lots of interesting, multifaceted characters, with no pat endings or trite resolutions. One’s view of each character changes throughout the movie. I’m looking forward to watching it again.

12 Strong, a story about the first special forces in Afghanistan after 9.11. The story has plenty of action, involves a historical baseline about the first efforts to combat the Taliban with the Northern Alliance on horseback. The action and casting is well-done but the story doesn't allow for a lot of depth.

A surprising find is Operation Chromite about the KOL insurgents who aided in McCarthur's invasion on September 14 -19, 1950 of Incheon. This is on Netflix, an interesting foray into part of history that proceeded me.
