I went in expecting that I would not like it, since I'm not a sci-fi guy, but I enjoyed the way they presented the story, and it put a new, thought-provoking spin on a theme that Hollywood has hashed a few times in my lifetime. I can't guarantee you'll like it, but I enjoyed it a lot. I may be giving the film more praise than it merits because this summer has been a shitty one for film. It may simly be that Lucy didn't bore me to death like most of this summer's movies.
I would usually be likely to see a film like this. I like ScarJo and MoFree but I just cannot get past the hoary premise; that we now use only 10% of our brain and if we could only unlock the rest we could do some cool stuff. That idea is just not true. It is dumb, dumb, dumb. And yet it gets repeated again and again in all sorts of places as though there is some basis to believe it. It drives me CRAZY.

Not true? Are you unfamiliar with the documentary, Defending Your Life?

Despite the flawed premise, I'l go see Lucy; the wife is gone for a week, and I enjoy Morgan Freeman's voice and ScarJo bouncing around.

Well, sure, but that's Albert Brooks, one of my comedic heroes! So that's different.

For the record, I liked Defending Your Life better than Lucy.

Seconded. Defending Your Life is grossly under-appreciated. I thought Lucy was okay. The nonsense in it was no worse than most movies -- just look what's in theaters now: a movie about teenage, mutant, ninja turtles; a movie with a talking raccoon and tree-man; a movie about super-smart apes; etc. But even beyond the premise, the plot was full of nonsense. The bad guys' plans and actions at basically every stage of the movie made no sense. I thought it might have benefited from Lucy gaining powers a little slower. That said, I was entertained. But I liked Limitless more.

Although I've never seen La Femme Nikita or Limitless, I read both wikipedia pages, and that sounds just about right. That said, I enjoyed the ontological side of Lucy. Notwithstanding the flaws in the story, the first thirty minutes is a series of flashing between a lecture given by Morgan Freeman on the brain's untapped capacity (I don't understand the outrage on this point...it's a movie...it's fiction), Lucy's run-in with the mind-altering impetus, and pre-Adamite primates, without a lot of explanation as to how they interrelate. They end the film in a similar fashion, tying the lecture, Lucy, and the flashbacks together in an interesting fashion.

You might have been asleep at the best parts.

I actually liked it. A lot more than I expected to. It was pretty funny. And the raccoon was very amusing.

                  • Saw Hercules. Meh. The plot was predictable, and I couldn't take it seriously when the only female warrior is dressed in armor that bares all her vitals.

I am guessing we may not share a definition of vitals in our female warriors.

Haha I'm going to guess not. Leaving your midriff exposed in battle is asking for trouble. :P

                          • Divergent. I don't know what it was, but it was trying way too hard to be more epic than it was. It wanted to be Hunger Games, but it did not deliver.
