Son of God.
Wife wouldn't tell me what movie we were seeing until I was in the car driving.
"Son of God."
"Oh come on."
"All the movies you force me to watch, you can do this."
"Oh geez, OK."
(look up IMDB--5.4).
"But remember we had a deal, we wouldn't force the other guy to watch anything below 6.0."
"No, you're doing it. It was pushed down low by all the atheists that hate Christians. You'll like this, I promise, all the critics said they did a really good job trying to make it accurate. Even the historians are praising it."
My review on the historical accuracy: they must have found some groundbreaking evidence that Mary was heavy into Botox, or else they must have missed that detail.

The 300 sequel. If we had seen that part of Eva Green in Casino Royale, it would have been the best Bond film ever.

Veronica Mars. We rented the movie for $6 in HD off M-GO (Actually had free movie credit so it cost nothing. For any of you with a Roku, if you set up an M-Go account you get your first two movie rentals free.) instead of seeing it in the movie theater for $20+. That may or may not have added to the enjoyment of the movie. As a fan of the show I had a lot of fun with it. In many ways it seemed like a 2 hour episode of Veronica Mars rather than a movie. Not sure how I feel about that and if anything, it made me wonder what a FNL movie (should it ever happen) would be like. For the most part it just made me nostalgic. The one liners, the characters I learned to love and hate, the several references to the series throughout all made me really miss the show all over again. I was excited to learn that Dick Casablancas is getting his own webisode series. He's one of my favorite characters and his appearances in this movie didn't disappoint. Also there were plenty of cameos including a pretty funny one by James Franco."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Need for Speed. Loved it.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

"A Place in the Sun" to get some CLE credits at the Utah bar convention in St. George this weekend. The movie itself (a 1951 Best Picture nominee) was decent enough to hold my interest for two hours. The "legal aspect" of the flick was much too brief and much too absurd to justify it being selected by the Bar, though. Perhaps if I grew up in the 40s and 50s I'd feel differently. Ret. judge Leslie Lewis was on the panel and 75% of what she talked about is how she had the hots for Clifford Montgomery. She said she could never convict someone as good looking as him. With her reputation, it was hard to tell if she was joking.

I finally got through The Shining after many attempts and having fallen asleep previously. I suppose it was good, but very Kubricked. I now understand why they later remade it, but not why it was a made for TV attempt."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! Nebraska
Blue Jasmine
Captain Phillips
My wife for some reason wanted to catch up on some of the Oscar movies even though I couldn't get her to see them when they were out. Loved Nebraska. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I enjoyed the movie. James Franco playing James Franco was very funny. I'm glad that they were able to work Vinny Van Lowe into the movie.Originally posted by Surfah View PostVeronica Mars. Divergent which I would rename Convergent. Entertaining but not spectacular.
Watched Nebraska which grows on you."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Finally saw this after being excited about its release but never making it to the theater. The ending really threw me off, as I just assumed everything was linear after the first scene. The movie was very bleak and I thought it would end on more of a positive note, and was surprised when it ended as bleak as it started (the cat was the only bit of symbolism that leaned toward positivity for the main character). When it dawned on me that the last scene was the first scene, I went back and watched them next to each other, and finally saw the glimmer of positivity. Clever Coens, as it was subtle, but the additional context of Dylan taking the stage after him totally changes how you conceptualize the scene.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostSaw "Inside Llewyn Davis" yesterday. Like most of Coen Brothers' films, it is visually interesting. Set in the 60's, it has that faded 'old film' look. The acting is great. The soundtrack is by T. Bone Burnett, and the songs are excellent. It has the requisite 'Coen distractions', when you're really not sure where they fit in with the film. And of course, the characters are more important than the plot.
Not my favorite, but I still enjoyed it. I'd liken it to "A Serious Man'. I think if I watch it again, I'll like it more.
Also liked the idea of his life being something of a folk song and the story ending/beginning like a record that goes round and round. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

My wife and I saw it on opening day in the theater. Surprisingly the theater was completely full of Marshmallows. Made it even more joyable. The cameo of Kristen Bells husband in the bar was equally funny as James Franco putting on tight jeans.
Like you Surfah, it made me nostalgic and miss the show and its clever writing skills of Rob Thomas.. Last I heard it made close 3 million in the theaters. Not sure how much it made in dvd sales. Either way, it was a trip down memory lane for the wife and I.

I watched Eastwood's Unforgiven last night. What a great film. One of my all time favorites. the moral ambiguity is fabulous. Great performances (with Eastwood perhaps being the weakest; I've never thought he was a great actor), great setting. Very impressive film.PLesa excuse the tpyos.
