Just watched In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar Wai, very engaging movie. Chinese movie about an affair between neighbors when they suspect their spouses are both cheating on them. Excellent cinematography that works really well with the score to build the tension. Costume design for Maggie Cheung is excellent also .

Just rented the sequel 2046, we'll see how it goes.

Moon is great by the way, I recommend it to everyone I know that doesn't have ADD. Great pacing, one of the few movies that can be compared to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The point is that a movie thread of that sort usually only attracts a handful of posts anyway. There had already been two posts about the movie in this thread. If I started my own thread, boldly making a leap of faith (oh, how exciting!), I would be unlikely to draw responses form those that had already posted, other than perhaps a note that they had already posted.

My purpose in posting what I did is not to strengthen my faith in my ability to post, but to contribute something to a discussion. The discussion had started here, I see no reason to dilute it or detract from it. OTOH, if the thread had started on its own, it might have led to a more productive dialog on that particular movie, one which wasn't itself diluted by interruptions about other films.

I have no problem with this thread, but I think it is used too often as a catch all when we might profit from more independent threads. But hey, these things are very organic.

I caught Moon tonight, on the recommendation of all of you. It's an insta-play on Netflix.

Really liked it, the pacing didn't bother me because I was busy enjoying the lunar landscape and all those tiny sci-fi verite touches.

Tess realized that she was recording for a clone, right? That's why she's always teary?

And when the first clone starts mentally deteriorating, who is the woman he sees sitting in the chair? They never explain her.

How come clone #2 doesnt realize that #1 is also a clone? I'd take one look at all the frozen storage clones and realize it in a hurry.

And do you think the "real Sam Bell" was back on earth with his daughter? That he was the one she called father?

My wife and I just watched RACHEL GETTING MARRIED. We agree quite a bit on movies but on this one she really disliked it while I thought it was kind of amazing. I left some comments on the film in its own thread.

About Moon if I remember correctly the wife recorded that for the first clone, they were just playing stuff that had been recorded 15+ years ago. The clones only lasted for what 2 years? The clones didn't know about each other until the end when they found the place where the clones are stored. The clones all thought they were just doing a 2 year tour of duty and then they'll get to go home.

I watched There Will be Blood for the first time yesterday. I thought it was okay and not great, but can't argue that it made an impression on me. One thing that bugged was the musical score, which I'm sure some also loved. I will say that it was a good example of how music can totally affect the emotional experience of watching a movie--whether or not I agree that the music fit.

I also watched a movie called Man Push Cart about a former Pakistani vocal star who works in NYC selling coffee and bagels. Anyone else seen it? I'm not sure what I think about it and need someone to tell me what to think.
