This Eternal Earth by Rodney Turner

My FIL has lent me a copy of what he called "one of his favorite books." It is "This Eternal Earth," by Rodney Turner. FIL said that I would like it. I have never read anything by Turner, so this is my first go-round.

I am about 40 pages in and it strikes me as being pretty cuckoo for cocoa puffs. The Lost Tribes are in outer space, dinosaurs died in the flood, etc. In fact, it feels like a cross between a bad Sunday School class, a crazy seminary class, and a really old copy of MoDoc.

I notice that the book is out of print, which isn't determinative but also not a great sign.

Anyhow, has anyone else read any of Turner's work? Is this book a fair sampling of his material?

The title should have been your first clue.

He's a BYU professor. Does that make you a proud alumnus?

I haven't ... You know it just so happens that his book, Jesus & Joseph: Parallel Lives is on sale for 4.99 at the Granite Books website. If your FIL doesn't have it then I think you have found a cheap yet high quality and much appreciated Christmas present:

Perhaps he was thinking of CUF when he said this, knowing that we would all have a good laugh.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Seriously, "one of his favorite books"? And how on this eternal Earth did you make it to page 40? I think I might have stopped when the rocket ship blasted the lost tribes into space...

you bet! There is a chapter that outlines how the dinosaurs all died in the flood and that carbon dating can be explained because "we don't know" the effects the flood had on the Earth's sedimentary layers.

There is a lot of good flood stuff in the book.

ps City of Enoch is also in outer space.

Sounds like a fun book. You should hang on to that.

You could use the spoiler feature. I am excited to read and don't want ruin all the juicy details.

It isn't mine, otherwise I would. Since it is one of his faves, doubtful that he will give it up to me.

In what has probably zero correlation, the book is also out of print.

I may post some highlights here for the board's general consumption. I have a feeling SeattleUte will have some strong feelings about much of the subject matter.

Was the book written by a faithful church member who read the scriptures over and over, and pondered and pondered and prayed and prayed, and because he is so holy the spirit spoke hidden truths to him? Is that what the dust jacket indicates? I have a couple of books like that, one is from 1940 and outlines how Germany is Gog and Magog and the second coming would be 7 years after the death of Hitler.
