Thanks, I didn't see the other thread.

Last night the near-impossible happened - I was watching a Sandra Bullock movie and forgot I was watching Sandra Bullock. She did a very nice job. The L.A. Times reviewer was surprisingly positive this morning. Anyway, it's just a pleasant and funny movie, and not sappy at all. Enjoy it.

I saw the Blindside this weekend and really enjoyed it other than Mrs. V laughing at me and calling me a little girl when she saw my tears. Sandra Bullock was surprisingly good and the actor who played Big Mike did a fantastic job. I plan to buy a copy of the DVD, it will be well worth watching in years to come.

Spoiler for I do have one question.:
What happened to the other kid who was going to start the private school with Michael? His dad, Big Tony, took them both there for the express purpose of getting his son into the school. The counselors said he had the grades (when the coach was arguing to get Mike enrolled), but he was never heard from or seen again

I really enjoyed the movie. My wife and kids actually cried for a good amount of the film.

It was better than I expected, and we will own it on DVD.

It led to some good discussions around the house last night. About service and treating other people better.

I think the book was very good. It is a very different book than Moneyball, but I think at the same level.

Great, great movie. Solid performances all around. Amazing that all of that happened not that long ago and there has been 100% turnover in the coaching positions for each school represented. Adding to the irony, I believe Ed Ogeron works at Tennessee now.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'll see it, but I'm still afraid it's going to be a chick flick disguised as a football movie.

My MIL saw it last night with my wife and SILs. They all "loved it."

I doubt I ever go see it now.

Saw it today and it was neither good nor bad, though closer to bad than good. Had this just been a Hollywood script, I would have completely hated it. But, knowing that this story happened (despite the fact that I'm sure the movie took huge liberties with the actual story), gave me some modicum of appreciation for it. Seeing the pictures of the family and Mike getting drafted during the credits was the coolest part.

A lot has been made of Sandra Bullock in this movie, but I found her performance rather unremarkable.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

How can you disregard a positive L.A. Times review? That's against the Constitution or the Word of Wisdom, I think.

I saw it a couple of nights ago. I liekd it a lot. Ithought Sandra Bullock was quite good in it. A predictable but effective story enhanced because it is, at base, true.

If you read the book Sandra Bullock is spot on. She plays the part very well and I actually thought she gave a good performance. Also the movie is very close to the book iirc. The only thing different was I thought in the book (I will have to check it out) that Collins the daughter befriends Big Mike first.

Regardless it is a good story and I agree about the actor playing Mike Oher that he did a great job. Also Sandra bullock for some reason was very attractive in this movie.

I also wished they spent more time on how good of an athlete he is, the kid did a standing back flip at 6'5 330 pounds, he can dunk from a stand still under the hoop, he is just a freak athlete.

It might have been because they couldn't convincingly sell that idea given the actor playing Big Mike. They showed that clip of him throwing down dunks on the playground, and then they cut to this dumpy looking kid that barely looks like he could jump rope let alone get 330 lbs on top of a 10' hoop. But I get that the options are limited when casting this role - any 6'5" 330 lbs athletic freak is playing in the NFL, not acting.

The other thing I was going to mention was that the little kid in the movie was just totally annoying. The role they had him in is kind of tricky, as there's typically a fine line between charmingly precocious and outright obnoxious. Unfortunately I felt this kid was the latter.
