I saw this yesterday with Super and it was entertaining, but just okay. It is actually funny because I had just watched Public Enemies on DVD the night before and came away wondering how you can have Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in a movie and yet have characters and a story line that aren't particularly interesting. That sort of how I felt about Downey, Law and McAdams (she was the best of the three). Just okay.

Also, the villain was played by Mark Stong who is a poor man's Andy Garcia look alike but without any charisma. I'm just not sure why people keep letting Guy Ritchie make movies, actually.

It was entertaining for sure. Not great, but good. I disagree with UD. Mcadams was boring and had no chemistry with Downy Jr. Downy Jr and Jude Law on the other hand had great chemsitry.

Well, here's my mea culpa on SHERLOCK HOLMES. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I thought it looked pretty terrible and was afraid that Guy Ritchie was a poor match for the material. But then I went and saw it with a big group of extended family last week and had a great time. The plot was lame and the climax went on too long (I'll go into more details after more people have seen it) but the chemistry between Downey Jr. and Law was fantastic. I could have watched those two all day long.

Additionally, I was so sure that the filmmakers would abandon all fidelity to the original source material that I was pleasantly surprised at how much actually remained. The whole thing was a lot of fun.

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

AGree completely. I thought mcAdams not only was weak as an actress but also that she was cast poorly was she was too young and freshly scrubbed for the sort of woman she was portraying. I enjoyed the movie.
              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Saw it last night. It was okay ... not great but not terrible either. I expected more from Robert Downey Jr. but was disappointed.

I thought the movie was pretty good. It certainly wasn't the prototypical Sherlock Holmes, but I thought Watson's role was more true to the books than some of the other movies.
SPOILER - I was disappointed when Moriarty wasn't the villain (at first), so I am glad they left that plot line open for a sequel. And I agree that Rachel McAdams, while easy on the eyes, wasn't really the right person for her role.

                    Mmmm... Rachel McAdams freshly scrubbed....

I haven't seen the movie yet. Going back and forth on whether I want to or not.

                    Same thing with Avatar.

I am pretty picky when it comes to what movies I'll spend $10 on.

The only input I have on AVATAR is if you are going to see it, shell out the $ and see it in 3D on the big screen. Picking that one up at Redbox or Blockbuster kind of misses the whole point of the endeavor.

                        I know.

What about IMAX vs regular-type? Or RealD vs 3D?

I didn't do the IMAX but the RealD (is that just the newest 3D technology?) was impressive.

                            2 reasons:

                            1. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
