Wow I'm surprised to hear that opinion. After being one of the funniest shows on tv for a while, I thought the last couple seasons were absolutely brutal. It was painful to sit through the last few episodes.

I actually stopped watching in season 5 because it seemed like they had explored everything they had to say. When I checked it out again near the back half of season 6, I was pleased to find them back on their game. And I found season 7 to be mostly excellent. The visit to Jack's late mother's house I'd rank among the show's best.

And while most series finales are so concerned with being events that they don't really stand as individual episodes (see: Seinfeld, Friends, etc.) 30 Rock's kept a perfect tone throughout while still giving each character an appropriate sendoff and providing Lutz with his finest moment. The only thing more I could have asked for was an appearance from Dennis Duffy.
