  • 30 Rock

had me in stitches last night. Hilarious.

If you have not lived in NYC, the subway scene with Jack was funny. But if you have, it is triple.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

It takes me at least 40 minutes to watch a 22-minute episode of 30 Rock (on DVR) because I have to pause it to laugh every two or three minutes.

The season premiere was disappointing but these last two episodes have been gold.

that is approximately 1.5 minutes of laughing at each pause, with about 11 pauses per episode. That is a lot of laughing.

Is it just me or is 30 Rock attempting to prove the absolute that creative comedies can have no more than 2 great seasons?

Has there even been a good episode this year?

I think 30 Rock is good, not as good as it was when it first got up and running, but still good.

Also, they seem to have made that new character permanent....the new cast member. And, as we learned from "Roy" in the Simpsons, adding a new character is often an attempt to boost ratings.

I liked the guest appearance by Amber Waves, even with a Southie accent. Romantically kissing a married woman was a strange move. The made up Christmas holiday wasn't very funny to me, either. I did enjoy Liz's attempts to buy her boss a Christmas gift...esp the lousy guitar song.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that that's why Ricky Gervais only ran The Office (UK) and Extras for two seasons each, to go out on top.

BTW, Extras is probably my favorite sitcom of all time.

I've only seen the one episode with Clive Owen. Probably the funniest TV I saw last year.

Fun article published today in The Rolling Stone on The Last Days of '30 Rock'. It's an entertaining read... I loved this snippet:
Alec Baldwin went from trying to quit the show a couple of seasons back to lobbying for another season, even offering to cut his salary. He’s convinced that having a second child, in 2011, may have been the breaking point for Fey. “I saw a real difference in her,” says Baldwin. “Tina always had her antenna up, but this year was the first time where she came in and laid down on the couch on set, and you could tell, she’s a mom. She’s fucking wiped out.”

                        And this is spot on:
What’s really crazy about 30 Rock is its sheer verbal velocity – punch lines go by so fast that even smart people may need to rewind (an industrious blogger calculated that a 2010 episode averaged 9.57 jokes per minute). “It requires you to pay attention in a way that you don’t always want to at the end of a long day,” says Fey, “and I get that. I’m a professional comedy worker, and there would be days when I’m like, ‘I love Arrested Development, but I don’t want to watch it right now.’ ”

So many of those punch lines lost on me no doubt... though there were some I'd never dare explain to my wife:

Holy cow. I still remember choking on my own spit when I saw that.

Extras is great, but I prefer the Office (UK). Life's Too Short ranks 3rd among the Gervais comedies.

That was a pretty great finale last night. There was a time around seasons 4 and 5 where I thought 30 Rock had kind of worn out but they picked it up big time these last couple years and finished at full strength.

"For your information, most of Tan Penis Island was destroyed after Sting's house fire."

                            God bless you Jack Donaghy.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Wow I'm surprised to hear that opinion. After being one of the funniest shows on tv for a while, I thought the last couple seasons were absolutely brutal. It was painful to sit through the last few episodes.
