I didn't realize there was a bit of dust on lens or mirror until after I took these photos. Still, here are a few from earlier this morning in my yard:

what lens were you using? I'm guessing around 4.0 aperture?

          Indeed. Unbelievably exquisite.

I have a nice 18-55 zoom that came with my D50 when I bought the camera. You're good. Aperture was 4.5

Oquirrh Mountains from South Mountain, Draper. In between is the Dreaded Salt Lake Valley Inversion Layer.

                    • Katy I'm very impressed by your photos. Thanks for posting so many of them here. I am curious of a couple things what type of camera and what lenses do you have? Also do you carry your camera with you most of the time? My problem are twofold, first I suck at most things related to photography and second I always forget to bring my camera to practice taking more shots.

I just got my first DSLR in October, so I've been taking photos for about 2 months now. I have the basic, no-frills starter model D40 that lots of others on CUF have, with the included 18:55 and 55:200 lenses. The bonus with such a basic camera is that it is incredibly light, I think 1.4 lbs. So I can take it everywhere.

Cool pics Katy. How long did you expose this one?

Part of the top went all over my golf course, Forest Hills. The ash actually killed 4 greens. Fortunately, the rich minerals actually made them nicer when they recovered.

I have the same camera, but absolutely no photography know-how. I need photography for dummies or something. I love your shots. I would have never guessed you just bought your camera a few months ago. I don't know you, but you remind me of a roommate I once had at BYU -- she could do anything, pick up anything new, and do it all well. I kind of have the feeling that you are like her.

You are a natural. I've been toiling away for about 5 years with a decent camera and can't touch your skills. Amazing stuff.
