I totally agree that anyone who would walk into your office and nip a burgeoning friendship in the bud is a nut job. The thought itself is a subject worthy of a Seinfeld episode.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Some people are insecure and suspect that if people really got to know them they wouldn't like them. Rather than face rejection of their "true self" they instead go out of their way to get negative reactions from people. Sometimes it is purposeful and sometimes it is done subconsciously. You have been sabotaging yourself for years Lingo, which do you think it is for you?

Hey, start your own thread. The ridiculous part of this is that you spend tons of time with this person. To ignore the possibility that friendship might grow over time, due to changes in work "teams," deadlines, working together, a business trip where you have to hang out together at functions, is misguided. I'd never go up to someone and tell them that I didn't want to be friends unless they had seriously wronged me or were gossiping about me, in a true backbiting way.
If someone came in and actually said this to me, I'd say, "OK, fine," but I'd come on CUF and post something in the Crypt about how much of a <redacted> they were and "where do they get off?" type comments."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

Depends entirely on who it is. I can see thinking 'ouch,' 'meh,' or 'phew!!'Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostAre you offended if someone doesn't want to be your friend? Say you get a new coworker. If, after a couple weeks, they came into your office and said, "You know what? You're a fine person and all, but I have no interest in being your friend," would that bother you?

Lingo! The fact that people care enough to participate in this self-serving thread means that people want to like you. By comparison, take a look at the kind of dialogue Hallelujah's posts typically generate. Stay friendly and let the unfair treatment roll off your back. Mormons can be a defensive and touchy bunch, but if given enough time, they eventually remember how to be Christian.Last edited by RobinFinderson; 09-04-2009, 07:13 PM.
