Yup and those gas burps are highly flammable. So are the farts. So's the poop for that matter...

Since there's no way for your body to readily absorb long-chain hydrocarbons, hey just go through you. Some can be randomly broken down by acids and become shorter chains that can just filter their way into the body, but most just pass right on through. The additives (stuff like alcohol, EDTA, MTBE, etc) CAN be broken down and absorbed and can cause real problems if you get enough of the wrong blend of gas. Start with alcohol poisoning at the top of the list and go down from there...

You sure know a lot about gas.

Well - I don't have any great stories to tell. I taught a guy on my mission who couldn't get baptized because when he was younger he was drunk and robbed a bank. The way he told the story, one of the guards was shot and killed during the robbery - but when he slept off being drunk he didn't remember if he was the shooter or if it was someone else. So...I may have met someone who was a killer.

More interesting to me - I always thought bleach was a strong base. For whatever reason I remember learning not to allow it to combine with acids because it would release some bad gasses.

I added my vote: No. But now that I think about it, I baptized 2 guys who had killed some folks, or at least one for certain. But it was allegedly self defense (for both guys, I think) so it wasn't murder, if we are using the term in the legal sense, i.e. an unjustified killing.

I used to work at the Utah State Prison. I came to know many murderers working there. The stories are starting to fade in my memory, but they were varied and weird.

I don't personally know anyone who has murdered someone, but I do (did) know at least two who were murdered.

One was a supervisor of mine when I worked for a press clippings agency in Provo - about a year after I left my employment there, my supervisor, Kerry (a guy) was found shot to death in a canyon somewhere around there. They thought it was a robbery.

The other was a kid I grew up with in South Carolina. While I was at BYU, he came out to Salt Lake, got married, and was working as a security guard. He went missing one day at lunch time, and they found his body a year later buried in the woods near Manti. Apparently it was his wife and her boyfriend, and he had been caught up in some love triangle thing.

He was the brother whose wife and child were murdered by Ron and Dan, no? Was this after the murder?

The fact that this poll has nearly 50% affirmative votes screams out how effed up our country is.

I noticed that and thought it was a rather disturbing percentage.

It was after the murder. At the time I hadn't lived in Utah very long and had only a passing acquaintance with the case. I did know enough about it, however, to be uncomfortable. It's like being with someone with a big, throbbing zit in the middle of their forehead. Everyone knows it's there, and the more you try to ignore it, the more self-conscious you become because it's obvious you're just trying to ignore it. And worst of all, the whole time you're just dying to pop the thing.

How do you square this with the plummeting murder rates since the late 80s/early 90s? It is interesting because if you asked this poll to a group of our parents (speaking for those born in the 70s) in the 80s before murder rates peaked, my guess would be a lower percentage of them would answer yes. So do we just interact with more segments of society now so we come into contact with killers? Or is it that the overall murder rate is falling, but murder is more common among groups where it wasn't very common decades ago? I'm just thinking out loud here. Maybe my assumption is incorrect and a greater % of our parents would have answered yes.
