I don't think you are supposed to use cell phones in hospitals. That is probably a problem for someone in doctorcoug's position.

I haven't used one, but I would prefer it to the magicJack I'm using, mostly b/c it connects to your internet connection from the wall instead of from your computer. I don't know what the quality is like, however.

I've been using Ooma for years. No significant problems with the service. I got in while there were no taxes or service charges. They've since changed their business model, but I'm grandfathered in.

When they first changed, they bombarded me with emails suggesting I switch to take advantage of the system upgrades that would inevitably come and eventually be required. No thanks. I'll reevaluate after there's a problem.

Now I got an email offering to upgrade my VOIP device for $79, while still keeping me on a no pay plan. Anyone think upgrading makes sense? I'm worried they might have some sort of life cycle built in that will require another upgrade that will also require me migrating to a pay plan.

Still not having any problems? If not, no need to upgrade.

I agree. Hang on to your 1st gen. For a $20 savings, it's not worth the risk to lose your core status/services.

Everyone's circumstance is different, but... I might stick with VOIP if it was free, but with how cheap it is to add cell phones to family plans these days, I don't know that any upgrade would be worth putting any money towards it.
