Which insurance do folks here use for auto coverage?

I'm considering making a switch if I can find a little better rate. I really don't have a problem with my current company (State Farm), but I'd like to get an idea of what others folks think of their agencies - particularly if you have a teen driver on the policy - and maybe find something that might be a better deal.

I knew the rates would go up when adding a teen, but dang, I didn't realize how much they'd go up.

    TIA

just imagine if she were a boy!!

I saved a ton when we switched from State Farm to Geico, but it's just the two of us on the policy.

I am grateful for my old man getting me into USAA. I have all of my insurance and banking through them and they are fantastic. I've shopped around and their rates are always the best for the coverage I need. My brother's fiance works for Progressive and she couldn't even beat USAA's rate. But I realize this is only an option for those with military.

I realize that I should be happy she's not a boy, but she drives like her mom. (I won't get into that more than saying it's a white knuckle ride).

As for a boy, in a short 18 months, the oldest boy will have his license. Perhaps we'll run out of oil by then and everyone will have to ride bicycles.

I am with Geico. Never had to use it so I don't know.

We have a 06 Toyota Tundra and an 07 Honda Pilot. We have 100/300 on both cars. Uninsured, towing, rental replacement...the whole bit.

Before we put our daughter on the policy we were paying 550 every 6 months. (No tickets or accidents at all.)

After the kid we are paying 1250.00 every 6 months. Still no tickets or accidents.

And that is with the good student discount.

              Progressive.

We had Allstate and were about 3 months away from the 5 year no accidents discount or forgiveness or whatever when my wife wrecked her car. Our rates were high before that.

A week after we got progressive, my car died on the side of the road. Progressive sent a tow truck...which was a cost built in to our coverage. It was extra for Allstate.

I use The Hartford. We were with Progressive and were paying about 100 a month for 15,000/30,000 coverage. Now we pay about $80 a month for 250,000/500,000 on the same vehicles. I can't speak as to how their customer service is, as we haven't had reason to call them in the 6 months we've had their policy.

We've got Liberty Mutual with the BYU alumni discount. Geico said they couldn't come close.

I used to work for a company that worked a lot with the insurance industry, although it wasn't with auto insurance.

I was really impressed with State Farm. They seemed like a very good company. I wasn't very impressed with Alstate but hear they aren't as bad as they used to be. Of course nothing could compete with USAA, if you can get it.

I have Bear River. They only take people with clean records from what I understand and I believe they are only in Utah. It was a lot cheaper than Progressive that we used to have. When we originally went with Progressive we shopped around a lot with the well known names and they had the best rate.

Can I get on my soap box since we are on the subject of insurance? Forgive me if I've said it before, but please, please my friends max out the uninsured/underinsured provisions of your coverage. Buy as much of these as your carrier will sell you. It is not that much more expensive.

The chances that you will cause an accident and hurt someone to the tune of a number higher than your coverage is not great. The chances that someone is going to hurt YOU have either no insurance or a minimum limits policy($25,000 or some places less) is much greater. What would you do if someone left you unable to work and all that was available was their $25,000 policy? This is where YOUR underinsurance/uninsured policy comes in. Your sales person won't try to sell you on it because they don't profit from you knowing about it, but it is the best money you will ever spend. Please everyone do this.

State Farm. I was with All-State and about a year and a half ago I went in just looking for a quote, got more coverage and a lower deductible for about 60% of the price.

Yep, I use USAA, too (dad was in the Air Force). Their service is really great and it's tough to find a lower price.

Enjoy the ownership of a couple of "pit" variety dogs, so if I want the multiple line discount, then in my area I'm limited to either Farmer's or State Farm. Went with State Farm based strictly on price -- haven't tested them yet though.

In the past, I've had both Geico & Allstate and didn't have problems filing with either of them.
