  • Real ID - do you have yours yet?

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/18/n...cense-dmv.html

After October 1, 2020, if you want to fly and don't have a Real ID driver's license - or a passport - they're not going to let you on the plane. Apparently lines are getting longer at DMV offices and will just get worse as October approaches, because you have to go to the DMV office in person with the appropriate paperwork to get one.

Fortunately, we went to the bother of getting ours in 2018 when we got our new Idaho licenses.

Just renewed my passport. I'll get the Star Card thing on my license the next time I renew.

Kind of dumb. I don't see why they are doing this-- you don't technically even need a photo ID to get on a plane and fly domestically. Why should you other than ticket control considerations for airlines? I don't see the need to go apeshit with the gov't clampdown on interstate travel. What's next- customs at the border of Utah and Idaho?

No kidding - need better control over the northbound traffic.

I just got mine in the mail this afternoon. The only difference on my new license is a gold star, as far as I can tell.

I wasn't worried as I have no less than four other forms of identification that would work for me at the airport.

Unless you have multiple driver's licenses and passports, I'll bet you have exactly two that will work after October 1st.

Military ID, Global Entry Card, two passports and now a drivers license.

Maybe in Idaho but not in Utah. I have the gold star on my license and I didn't go to the DMV (or DPS in Utah's case) to get it.

Apparently all states aren't the same in their requirements for Real ID. The article noted that in New York you have to show up in person. Now I'm curious which states require a personal visit and which don't.

I had to show up in person in Nevada, with two forms of ID I think. Annoying, but its done.

I renewed my Driver's License in July. I hope it has the stupid gold star on it, because I don't want to deal with getting it replaced.

My wallet wasn't in the same room with me when I posted that. I have the gold start on it. I am glad to know that I won't be restricted from flying to various Pokemon Go events after October 2020.

I am standing in line at the dmv right now waiting to see if I have marshaled sufficient identification and indicia of residency to qualify for a Real ID. As I stand here I marvel at the complete and utter inefficiency of this process. I don’t think I want the government running anything.
