    Cougarboard Foreskin

A classic CB moment occurred this week when a poster was legitimately unaware as to whether he was circumcised. You just can't make this stuff up.

Well, just as long as he doesn't go complaining that sex isn't as good. One of mybuddies inmed school was on anti-circ crusade and the basis was that taking off the foreskin removes a large amount of nervous tissue that aids in sexual pleasure. I kid you not. This debate didn't go over well with some of the female colleagues.

So is he wrong? What about desensitization.

I take up this flag because this is not the first time I've heard this, but you make it sounds like its a ridiculous idea. Is it?

It's all about surface area. I find it hard to believe that a man needs more than what he already has to feel satisfied. Plenty of surface area.

It isn't just about 'surface area.' The head of the penis was 'designed' to be a sensitive mucous membrane area, and not the dried out result of circumcision. You can't take a sensitive mucous membrane bit and dry it out and chafe the hell out of it and expect it to perform the way God intended.

I had read studies (or perhaps they were reports of studies, I don't remember) which stated that the foreskin gives the woman more pleasure.

What I'm interested in knowing is as an expecting father, what real, tangible benefits come from circumcision? I've read a little bit on it and aside from the prevention of phimosis, which doesn't seem to be that common, I can't see any real benefits from it. It seems to me like there's a greater chance of snipping too much or too little and doing damage that way then there is in just letting nature hang loose, so to speak. I'm inclined to not have any sons I may have (we have two girls and are expecting a third child, sex unknown) circumcised simply because I don't see any benefit from it. Is there any scientific evidence that I should see that would change my mind?

Both my grandfathers were circumcised as adults. I asked them about this....they said there was no change in sensitivity, and that they much preferred being circumcised for cleanliness reasons.

                    That's enough for me.

The risks and benefits of circumcision are about a wash. I advise folks that it is within their preferences.

                      Specifics:

                      Risks: Bleeding, infection, abnormal scarring
Benefits: Decrease in UTI's first 2 years of life, Decrease risk of Penile cancer(a very rare cancer in the first place), and decrease risk of catching or transmitting STD's

Personal preference is really the only reason to do circumcision.

I would add that uncircumcised men who are unable to perform the necessary hygiene, for either mental or physical reasons, have a much higher risk of balantitis, which is an infection of the glans and the foreskin.
