These days? Lol. How does that work? With a Time Machine? A Time Machine that gives them modern sensibilities?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Lol are you serious? I'm sure you understand what I am saying. This thread already acknowledged that Jefferson wasn't exactly religious. Insisting that the Constitution literally protects rights given by a God that half of the residents of the country don't even recognize or follow isn't exactly compatible with 21st century norms and ideas.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

If you disagree with my points, and think that that "God" means the judeo-christian god, how is that any different than a christian nationalist point of view?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

"endowed by their Creator" doesn't have to mean the God of any particular religion. It is fully compatible with "nature" or your other suggested options.Originally posted by falafel View Post

Right. But not all gods provide the same rights to their subjects. If we pin our rights as originating from some nebulous god, we are assigning those rights to whatever powers and ideals we assign to that particular god. Not to mention the fact that not all American citizens even believe in god. And the fact that we have purposefully separated god from our secular lives particularly to avoid the kind of religious discrimination of minority groups could prevail here.Originally posted by Pelado View Post

It just seems foolish to continue to insist that basic human rights came from God. Instead, we should insist on basic human rights as a right to human dignity, not as some gift from a being that may or may not exist (especially if you aren't a Christian).Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. I’d prefer god given over politician given rights. But pelado is correct that using the word “creator” isn’t necessarily religious but just says that the rights aren’t given by anyone. The rights just exist by the nature of us being human."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Love it."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Too bad all those donations are performative and not because of real charity…

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock
