I'm sure Jack's been in his current home longer than three years. We border the 16th ward but Birch Ave has never been in the 6th ward. Maybe he was visiting. I'm trying to think of strange people who live on Birch and so far all I can think of is the Neilson family.

Yeah, he must have spoken at a fireside or stake conference and that's what I'm remembering (it was 13 years ago--not just 3). Is the Neilson family the former mayor? He never struck me as strange, but it made for some lively priesthood sessions when he'd promote some political initiative, and a left-leaning BYU-I prof/employee would take exception. Good times.

BYU-I is getting a new president today. The new guy who took down The Deseret News is going to run the Pathways program.

Yeah....I'm in my 2nd semester at BYU-Idaho, so I'm not exactly sure yet how this is going to affect what I have going on, but I am sure that it will.

The BYU-I FB page for online students has been in a complete meltdown this morning. It is kinda funny to watch.

You know how it is...boat load of change with no information.

It is understandable. I keep checking my e-mail to see if there will be some further clarification.

Supposedly BYU Hawaii and BYU will be participants of the program now.

It's a pretty cool program. However, I think being limited to one class per semester for three semesters is pretty brutal. That's a lot of time for 9-12 credit hours.

My son did it and it was perfect for him. If you want to faster pace and are capable of doing a faster pace, just register for the normal set of online courses. This is remedial college for people just starting to get back into the swing of things. Or attempting college for the first time.

I'm pretty sure this is 100% inaccurate information.

The Pathway program lasts for 1 year. You take a regular class + a religion class each semester. You meet one night a week in a Pathway gathering. You do that for 1 year. After that year, you enroll in BYU-Idaho and a severely discounted rate. It is 2/3 off of the regular online tuition rate. The only way to qualify for that though is by going through the Pathway program.

I'm currently in my 2nd Semester at BYU-I. Last semester I took 7 units. This semester I'm taking 9 units. These are the same courses as you take on campus, but without the help you really need. (Don't get me started on some of the lackluster online student support. I'm currently ready to take my Research Methods teacher out behind the woodshed to whoop some ass.)

It is a fantastic program.

That's why I say three semesters is a long time to only gain a max of twelve credit hours of universally transferable credit. If you're for sure going to stay in a BYU school then things look a bit better. Hopefully the religion classes aren't as brutal as those at BYU.

With that said I've done a lot of reading on the program and think it's fantastic. I'm very proud that this program will provide a way for many to get an education at a huge discount. I can't think of another church that's doing anything even remotely similar.
