The other main league was the Utah Baseball Academy -- it was much bigger than RMSB at the time, though I don't think that is the case anymore. UBA was mostly Salt Lake Valley kids, and then RMSB was basically everything north of Salt Lake up to Southern Idaho.

The league was run by a local bird dog (and still is, though I think his boys runs it a lot more these days), and at the end of the season he would pick a select team from all the teams competing in the league. It was a lot of fun. After the fall ball season, we spent weekends playing local JC's around the area, then went to a big invitational in Phoenix and played area teams, scout teams, teams from Mexico, etc. Then there was one or two early spring tournaments before kids went back to getting ready for their HS teams. Played with some pretty good players on those teams. Nate Weese, who was first team all conference at Utah, and Chris Shelton, who won MWC offensive player of the year at Utah and I believe was a 2nd team all-american. He also played a couple seasons in the bigs.

My old man was in town this weekend and he told me he was talking with a local scout recently who thinks these super league teams are diluting the talent pool. Interesting take, though scouts just seem to rant about a lot of things.
My nephew played in the RMSB for years. They went year round and played a ton of games. He played against a lot of the same kids in college and even in the minors. It has kind of been his social life for his entire life.

I doubt I would want to put my family through what his family did.

I'm sure i've mentioned this before, i tend to repeat my braggadocio. My HS baseball coach was Joe Rudi, a gold glover for the A's, during their glory days. His son, Mike was a good friend of mine, who went on to play at FSU, and win the CWS (the first time I ever heard the name of Deion Sanders, was win Mike talked about this crazy fast dude, who played both football and baseball). 6 different guys, from my American Legion team played college and/or pro ball - only 1 made it to the majors. He played for the Giants during the strike.

As you can tell, I was kind of a big deal. I probably could have cracked 80, back in the day. I'm positive anything above 50mph would require surgery and/or narcotics, now

BTW, I was not one of the 6.

We played a team one year in April, at the beginning of the season. It was our second or third game. After getting 10 RR we were talking with their coaches. They said it was their 64th game so far that year.
My grandson is 13 and plays in that league. His team has been to L.A. for a tournament. San Francisco for a tournament. Vegas 2 times, Phoenix once and St. George a couple. They play in tournaments in SLC, Utah County and Heber. I hope he or his parents don't burn out.

I doubt it. To many miles on this arm.

Can you bet on little league games? If so I would bet the farm on Nevada today against the team from Phillly.

Mo'ne Davis may throw 70, but this Nevada team has 4 kids that throw 70-75. She won't be throwing anything they haven't seen before.

I don't have a farm to bet, so I'll just make my prediction here--Nevada by 6.

I think a lot of you are full of shit and could not touch 70 let alone 80 on a gun.

Is Mo'ne pitching today? Didn't she just pitch recently and doesn't LL have rules about pitch counts and days of rest?

                Just asking out of curiosity...

                  No kidding.

80 on a gun is some serious heat. Shit, 70 is impressive.

You can't bet here, but on the radio the other day there was a dude who said he put money on the LLWS off-shore.

I never said I threw 77 mph, just that the Lagoon speed gun clocked me at 77. Of course I was a senior in high school and in the best shape of my life in terms of weight lifting and running.

I'd be willing to bet the Lagoon gun was off.

5 hits in 2 innings. She's fortunate to have only given up three runs so far.

Took my son to hit this afternoon, should have gotten on the mound and busted out the radar gun. Will do it Friday.

She also balks, but I don't think LL calls them.

The Vegas radio guys are giddy with her performance. Apparently Vegas was a 6-1 favorite.
