  • Can you throw harder than Mo'ne Davis?

Little league participant Mo'ne Davis, a girl, threw a shutout to get her team to the LLWS. She is 13 years old. Her fastball touches 70 mph.

I am curious how many here could go out today and throw harder than that. I know I couldn't. I doubt I was much past that - if at all - back when I played softball regularly, and I haven't thrown for years.

I'll be surprised if there are even two or three people on this board who could. Maybe I'm underestimating the CS bullpen. I'll be interested to see the results.

A few years ago my heater was clocked at 61 mph (but hey, this was with no warm-ups and not on a mound, which I'm certain would have brought my speed up to Roger Clemens territory). 70 mph for a Little Leaguer is phenomenal. Considering the shorter distance from the rubber to home plate in Little league, that speed would give the hitter less time to make a decision than one would have against a major leaguer throwing in the 90s. Show me the Mo'ne!

Little Leaguers are 12-13 year olds who throw from 46 feet. Most kids that age are playing on diamonds from 50 or 54 feet.

Same for the field size, LL fields are 225 feet to the fence. That isn't a big deal for a beefy 13 year old. In fact, most of those kids play in competitive baseball leagues where the HRs you see at Williamsport are routine outs in their normal leagues/tournaments.

This was supposed to be a public poll.

For those who still throw over 70mph, are you actively keeping your arm in shape?

No. But only after seeing I'm not alone on the poll

Maybe I could do it today. Back in the day I was clocked at 77 at one of those lagoon games.

                        Regardless, that's impressive by her

From what I've gleaned on the board, I figured you and HB would be likely yesses (barring injury or something).

That, and throwing a football as well.
