SALT LAKE CITY -- A new report suggests barely half of Utah's college students come out with a degree in six years.
The study, called Diplomas and Dropouts, compares some 1,400 colleges and universities nationwide. At the U, the report found 56 percent of students come out with a degree in under six years. That's within the national average.
"We have the LDS issue here in Utah, that makes our numbers a little bit different than others," Associate Vice President for budget and planning at the U Paul Brinkman said.
He says if you extend past six years to account for missions and marriages, the U's rate goes up to 60 percent.
BYU's rate is closer to 78 percent, which is typical for schools with more selective admission.
