    Motorcycle Mob in NYC

The first video needs to be watched to be believed, this is from the west side highway in NYC:

This second video is embedded in the link and apparently this took place before these guys went onto the west side highway:

In this second video you can see these guys just disregarding other traffic, stop lights whatever. The Range Rover's reaction in the first video is understandable. Supposedly, they're not charging the Range Rover driver with anything.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

After he took off and these guys followed him, I would have stayed on the freeway and been taking these guys out one by one by swerving the Range Rover. It's one thing if this guy takes off from a standstill and hits a few guys, but once he starts swerving and nailing these guys going 80 and the rest see their buddies get the Road Warrior treatment, then I imagine they'd back off. At least the smart ones would. The question then becomes whether any of them could have used firearms against him while riding their bikes.

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking this. If these assholes try to pull this again on that freeway, we may end up with a modern day version of Bernie Goetz who takes out a half dozen of these guys with his car.

That was crazy and legitimately scary. Is there any indication of why they went after the Range Rover in the first place?

I think he beeped at one of them. Of course he doesn't know if they're trying to surround and rob him (maybe they were).

A bunch of videos from the guy's youtube account that were captured before he took the account down.

in the video you see a white bike pull right in front of the range rover and downshift causing the rover to bump into him (incidentally, the range rover driver called 911 to report them before this happened). that's supposedly why they tried to stop him in the first place. while they're slowing down i think someone also starts hitting the car, so he gunned it. they're a bunch of long island knuckleheads looking for a fight. too bad they didn't pick one in a city where the driver of the rover could have had a nice surprise for the biker who broke the window.

The Range Rover driver overreacted. The bikers were only gathering around the vehicle to find out what happened!

Apparently the NYPD has had problems with these idiots and are more or less helpless to stop them without creating a hazard in a chase. If this guy took out a dozen of them the policie would have been high-fiving him instead of charging him.

Police reports state that when the SUV bumps the first guy, it broke the guys leg. (This was obvious an attempt by the biker to instigate something as he pulled directly in front of the SUV and hits the breaks.) The report then claims that the bikers surrounded his vehicle, started hitting it and spiking the tires. I think the SUV reacted the same way any of us would have.

It's standard procedure in any motorcycle rally to stop traffic at an intersection until all bikes get through, whether the light is red or not. A rider in the front will get to the intersection and block traffic until the last bike is through, at which point he will ride back to the front of the pack to do it again. I've been on dozens of rides, and it's always done the same way. I'm not defending what the bikers did to the Range Rover, but to vilify them for disregarding traffic stops is silly. It's common practice.

Yep, I would bet the bikers thought he wasn't deferential enough -- wasn't slowing down or getting out of the way for them enough and so that guy slowed down in front of him to try to teach him a lesson, intimidate him and make him brake, etc.

Agreed, that guy shouldn't have got off the freeway for any reason unless he was running out of gas -- you don't want to have to stop your car at all in that situation.

This is asinine. In your view motorists are supposed to somehow magically know that when motorcycles ride in a pack the motorcyclists are free to disregard the traffic laws for the convenience of the pack? What other laws are motorcyclists free to disregard when they ride as a pack?

Are there any laws that 4 wheeled vehicles get to disregard when they drive in a pack?

It's done in a very orderly fashion. The one who blocks the intersection parks in the middle of the intersection, gets off his bike and gestures for motorists waiting at the light to stop. It's not a big deal. I've seen police watch as traffic is directed in this manner, and they don't seem to have a problem. We're not talking about a scene out of The Wild One here.
