Each time this thread is bumped I think of the movie Friday right after Craig knocks out D-bo and his sister says "look at him he think he a mac" and his dad says "yum, macaroni".

one thing i can't stand about mountain lion is how it deals with multiple monitors and spaces (or desktops, whatever they're called). i should be able to have one space/desktop on one monitor and a different space/desktop on another. instead, you can only have one spread between the two.

That's being addressed in Mavericks, at least according to the keynote at WWDC.

well i wasn't planning on upgrading. guess i will now!

i do really like the implementation of multiple desktops when only using one monitor, though. four finger swipe to a different desktop (a win7 vm when i run parallels) is great.

Interesting. What would you like to do with two desktops that you can't do with a single stretched desktop?

i'd like to use full screen functionality on separate monitors. full screen is pretty nice, especially with a vm. another thing i'd like to see is something similar to win7's snap tool (windows+right arrow snaps a window to the right half of the screen, win+up full screen, etc.). i downloaded "bettersnaptool" and it's ok, but there are some things it doesn't play nicely with.

I guess I don't get it. I use full screen functionality on separate monitors with a single desktop. What am I missing?

if i have several windows set as their own desktop (which i do in order to avoid having to find buried windows and resize them when i need to use them), i can only view one of those windows at a time. the external monitor shows blank desktop space instead of showing another window. it's difficult to explain and that probably doesn't make sense. basically mountain lion treats an external monitor as an extension of whatever the selected desktop is rather than its own separate desktop space.

Microsoft to release OneNote for Mac in the next few weeks. Happy day.

I've tried warming up to OneNote but it doesn't take root for me. What is it you like about it, what does it do beyond word processing?

If you expected it to be a word processor, then I think we have solved the question as to why it is not taking root for you. The Microsoft product you are looking for is called "Word".

OneNote is a general purpose information archival tool. Kind of like a really smart notebook. You use it to keep track of various types of information want to be able to find later. Everything in your notebooks can be found almost instantly just by typing a few letters. I used it as:

                                Electronic recipe book
Journal for my Traeger smoking hobby
Archival of information related to trips (airfare, conf reg, hotel, etc)
Archival of quotes, articles, links etc related to LDS topics

Once you get the hang of it, it is fabulous. And you can you store your notebooks on the MS cloud so that when you are sitting in HPG and some guy goes off the deep end with nutty theories about multiple dimensions and crap like that, you can pop open your iPad and open up the iOS (or Android if you prefer) version of OneNote and quickly find the reference you need to set him straight.
