Members of the "What the hell? They're still alive?" club.

    My nominee: JD Salinger.

If it was 2004, it would have been Max Schmeling. Yeah, the guy who boxed Joe Louis back in the 30s. When he died in 2005, I heard a report about Max Schmeling dying and I had no idea the dude was still around.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I got more stories than JD got Salinger/ I hold the title/ and you are the challenger.

Probably one of my favorite Beastie Boy lines.

I've got Patrick Swayze in a CUF dead pool.

I had no idea Salinger was alive either, until I went to the Penn State archives last spring and talked with the special collections curator, who told me that Salinger is a fanatical recluse and is obsessively private. A few years ago, he sued to get some letters he had written back from the University's archives. He won, even though the recipient of the letters had given them to the school.

Can Swayze only be claimed by one player in a dead pool? I'm afraid I don't understand the rules. I have dibs on Amy Winehouse.

Did you guys know that Arsenio Hall is still alive? I had no idea. I just assumed that he would be sharing his talents with the world if he were still here. Like most true genii, he is probably living the life of a recluse among us mere mortals.

I heard he befriended an inner city african american youth and taught him how to write.
