Yeah it took me a little bit to connect the dots for my forth try, and luckily RUMOR didn't even occur to me.

I have sometimes wondered if a complete whiff on guess 1 might actually be helpful, or at least more helpful than landing a solo vowel or solo consonant), provided you have knocked out 5 very common letters. Hitting nothing allows you less restraint in maximizing your potential with word 2Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostCompletely whiffed on my first guess but somehow managed to land it in three.

HUMORSpoiler for Discussion:Guess 2 is really where you whiffed, and got lucky, using M instead of N. SJBH. If you were playing the odds, you should have gone with MOURN. Which just goes to show that, much like anything in life, while the game requires skill, it is often just as much about chance.

I 100% had it narrowed down to Rumor and Humor and guessed wrong. If I had believed there were other possible options, I would have gone Humor first, so as to eliminate the H over using the double R. But where it definitely seemed like it was one of those two words, I chose Rumor over Humor. Sad, as I almost always prefer humor over everything.Last edited by Donuthole; 02-09-2022, 10:34 AM.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Agree on your first point. Not sure I agree on the second. In my experience, you don't necessarily need to out all 5 vowels in your first two guesses. I often try AEIO (or some other subset of 4) and then based on the feedback you can often tell if one vowel is missing and therefore it must be "U" (rare exception for "Y" or a double vowel). So rather than waste a space on "U", try another common consonant.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

But without hitting any vowels in guess 1, outing/eliminating at least 2 more vowels in guess 2 would be pretty helpful. What I was referring to, though was your use of P and H before N; you got lucky there. MOURN was an easy way to use two unused vowels and three very common consonants. statistical probabilities would almost certainly indicate that as a better choice than MORPH, particularly where no limitations existed on where the letters could be slotted.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
