Photographing in South Central

Thanks for the photos RF; I'm pretty familiar with your neck of the woods. My grandfather lives off of 73rd & Florence; I still visit him every week. I've seen the area change from being all black neighborhoods, to a big influx of Latin move ins.

Cool! I was right there on Florence when I was taking some of these photos. I also like all of the industrial stuff and nice graffiti along the rail lines on Manchester. I'm glad to hear there are other CUF connections to the neighborhood. If your grandfather has been here for a long time, I'm sure he has seen some crazy things (like the riots?).

These pictures are fabulous and it makes me think of downtown Provo.

You know, Robin, looking at that picture of your wife and son, you may want to check them out really closely. I think they might be zombies. They just have that "look".

I checked last night be poking them each with a toothpick. They each yelled at me and then punched me in the arm. I'm pretty sure that is a non-zombie response but I can't be so sure until I've tried it again with a fork.

My grand parents have been there since '72; they've witnessed a lot over the last 30 years. Not many oldtimers left in their neighborhood, I'm not sure what my mom & her sisters have in store for the house, once grandpa passes.

Yesterday a good chunk of my day was filled dealing with Faith's car, which has needed service ever since our trip to Death Valley (lots of dusty dirt roads at high speeds). So I took the wheels off of my Rockhopper and put the three pieces into the trunk of the car and headed to our local garage. After turning the car in I hopped on my reassembled bike and started riding around. There was a cool looking billboard near the garage so I brought my camera to photograph it:



I went on to ride all over a good chunk of South Central, photographing buildings and signs. I love the look of South Central. I love the businesses with their hand-painted signs. I love the texture and color of the garbage in the streets and all of the rust and peeling paint.
