The Galaxy S3 Thread

It's outselling the iPhone and by most accounts, will be a better phone than the new iteration. There are more than a few of us on here that have one. I think it's time for a thread dedicated to everything this cool phone will do. Plus, I don't want Surfah's answer to my rooting question (if he ever gets around to it) to get buried in that other thread.

To start things off--two features I just discovered that are kind of cool:
-Face recognition unlock--to unlock your phone, you just pick it up and look at it and it recognizes your face. This is more cool than useful, IMO.
-Automatic calling--you're reading a text, you want to call the person. Just lift the phone to your ear and it automatically calls.

Any others?

Is anyone using the voice thing much? I've never bothered to set it up so I'm wondering if it's worth it.
Also--the Galaxy suggest thing is lame and takes up way too much space on the screen.

The text thing is cool. Unfortunately it only works with the stock text messaging app. I use Handcent SMS for text messaging and it does not work.

Another handy tip, I usually just go to contacts and then swipe right for phone call and left for text to that person.

The S Voice is okay. My girls like to ask it silly questions, but it is more novelty than useful. I think of it much like Siri in that regard. I am waiting for Jellybean and Google's version which everyone says is pretty damn impressive.

I forgot about the swiping on contacts--it's in the intro to the phone, I think, but I haven't been doing that.

This is the first time I've seen Android think about usability as much as performance. This phone is really designed to make things easy. I'm liking it a lot.

I got mine on Friday, and have had some fun playing with it. I've watched youtube tutorials, and looked up stuff on line. The first thing I did was Magic Keyboard. It's a much better keyboard than the Samsung. Second thing I did was a Golf GPS ap. My wife has a iphone 4s and she said she liked my phone as the screen is bigger, and it's lighter.

This will be a good thread, and I'm looking forward to learning things.

My question went unanswered the other day. I'm deciding between Droid 4, Droid Razr Maxx, and Galaxy S3.

Here's my thought process. First, I liked the Droid 4, because I'm a severely handicapped phone typer, and I miss my old Blackberry's keyboard. But then I read through the threads and decided to give Swype a try. Not happening. So I tried Swiftkey, and I like it! I think I've resolved my keyboard issues. So now I'm deciding between the Razr Maxx and S3. The S3 is clearly superior in terms of processing speed and software and screen. The Razr Maxx is far superior in battery, and from what I understand materially better in terms of phone reception quality. Unlike you guys, since I use my phone for calls and emails, instead of porn, I'm leaning towards the Razr Maxx.

Thoughts?

It's more the size. This is the first smartphone I've seen that fits well in a cell phone wallet and doesn't fill bulky in a pocket.

I don't quite get the Galaxy Note. It just seems way too big for a phone.
