"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

This was a tough read in a lot of ways (side note: I wish Surfah came around more often).

      • Something to watch, not read, but I've just started following Jack Plotnick on IG. Thus far, he's great, including hs series on designing Disneyland. Here's his "interview" with Walt Disney and Disneyland guide about his work on Pirates of the Caribbean.

        • Interesting and just outcome with Henrietta Lack's estate and pharmaceutical companies that profited from her cell line. Basically every university and biotech firm used and benefitted from cancer cells taken from Henrietta in the 50's. They were call 'HeLa' cells after her, and taken without her permission. They've been immortalized for decades. Her estate has settled with Novartis and ThermoFischer, with other lawsuits pending.

          • This isn't an article, but a really fun tool to build your own situation dashboard. It ties into a ton of different API's and you can customize which news events you want to see. I'm not saying it's going to be terribly useful in a practical sense, but definitely a lot of fun to mess around with.

            • I have so many questions... And this guy is overcomes all obstacles to dump a body..

US quadruple amputee cornhole champion arrested on suspicion of murder

Dayton Webber, 27, accused over shooting death of Bradrick Wells in Maryland, reportedly after argument inside car

According to a statement from investigators with the sheriff’s office of Charles county in suburban Baltimore, Webber was driving his car with Wells as his front-seat passenger at about 10.25pm on Sunday when the pair began arguing in front of others who were in the vehicle.

Webber, 27, then allegedly shot Wells to death, pulled over in the community of La Plata, and asked the other passengers to help him remove the dead man from the car, the sheriff’s office said. The others refused, got out of the car and fled the scene while Webber drove away with the body of Wells, also 27, the agency added.

Two people who purportedly saw the killing waved down police officers on patrol in that area and reported what had happened, setting off a search for Webber.

A couple of hours later, a resident of nearby Charlotte Hall, Maryland, called investigators to report a body in a yard.

              • How much scrutiny does Florida pay to ensure rigorous medical standards exist so its residents do not get incorrect abdominal organs removed? Not enough, apparently:

When an Alabama man visited a hospital near Miami in August 2024, he reported a pain in his left side, near the spleen. Three days later, he died on the operating table, missing a different organ, his liver, on his right side...

..I.n follow-up interviews with the Health Department, Dr. Shaknovsky claimed that he dissected the spleen from its surrounding tissue when an apparent aneurysm in the spleen ruptured suddenly, and caused severe bleeding — an account that conflicts with those of other witnesses in the operating room. An autopsy revealed that his liver was missing, but his spleen was intact and there was no evidence of a ruptured aneurysm...

...Dr. Shaknovsky tried to persuade his colleagues in the operating room that the liver he removed from Mr. Bryan was his spleen, the Health Department said in its report.

The Health Department had sanctioned Dr. Shaknovsky before, finding that he erroneously removed part of another patient’s pancreas instead of an adrenal gland in 2023. Dr. Shaknovsky said at the time that the adrenal gland “migrated” to another part of the patient’s body, the documents say. State records show that Dr. Shaknovsky paid $400,000 to settle a medical malpractice claim in that case.

How many improperly removed organs does it take to have a medical license revoked?

It might depend on the state. For Florida, it's more than one!
