My mom's ever-so-wonderful boyfriend has her convinced that we have to buy a solid wood acoustic.

I was looking at the Daisy Rock Pixie for $249. We were going to split the price and give it as a joint gift. Now, she won't go in unless we get what her boyfriend says is right.

A solid top, back,and sides acoustic guitar is for people who know how to play and isn't really necessary for a beginner. They are prized because they sound really good. The most important thing for a kid is to choose a guitar that fits their hands and plays well.

For the record my best sounding guitar for recording was a Takamine that had laminate body woods. Its recorded tone was full, well balanced, and articulate. It played like a dream and sounded incredible on stage as well. I hate that I sold that Takamine.

Ken would love the direction of this thread. He not only sold and built high-end guitars he was very dedicated to providing quality budget instruments to beginners. He sold hundreds of these guitars to Larry Green's BYU students.
