    $#!%! My back!

I'm in considerable pain right now, my lower back is killing me. I'm 95% sure that it is a muscle strain. I don't want to see a doctor, but I'm pretty non-functional at this point and I'm wondering if I should head to the instacare. Would they probably just prescribe a muscle relaxant and some pain medication and send me on my way? And how effective would that be? I'm already icing it and popping 4 ibuprofen every 4 hours. My biggest concern at this point is being able to attend my daughter's softball tournament tomorrow. Any advice?

If you're lucky that's what they'll do. Most likely they'll just give you nothing and send you on your way all while giving you that contemptuous "you're just trying to get drugs" look.

That's usually what most of us will start with. I don't think a short course of pain medication is inappropriate in this case. We usually don't give more than 12-15 at a time. I've found muscle relaxers and pain meds combined with ibuprofen can be pretty effective for this stuff.

I've had back problems all my life. Doctors don't do much. Do a lot of stretching. That's the only thing I've found that helps.

My wife has had good luck with message therapists.

She's also gotten relief of her back pain.

Physical therapy can be helpful as well.

Most back stuff is muscular. You see disc problems as well, but people can manage with those as well.

How aggressive you want to be with it is up to you.

I'm here waiting at the instacare. I should have brought my wife's 2 year old lortabs just to show them I'm not shopping for drugs.

Under any circumstances, do not catch any of the pitchers for warm ups on your daughter's softball team. At the last practice for my daughter, the team was short a catcher so I was asked by the coach to catch a simulated game for one of the pitchers that needed to work out. My legs are still recovering.

Best of luck. As other's have mentioned, stretching has helped me with back problems. I get good results using one of those large exercise balls.

My daughter also has a softball tournment this weekend. And the coach has texted me thanking me for helping out and that this pitcher wants to warm up with me in the future because I was a good target and could call balls and strikes from my umpiring days in college.

Can you think of an actual instance that might have cause the pain? Go see a Physical Therapist!!!!

As one who has gon through this several times I say see a chriropractor. They will stretch you out and relieve the pain. You go ewveryday for a week then you are fine.
