    The skill of motivation.

After dealing with a bunch of medical interns that are 4-6 months behind where they should be because we can't work them too hard, I'm fed up. They have no motivation to learn. They have to manage critically ill patients and that don't know basic concepts of ventilator management. Since they don't have to stay overnight anymore, I find all they want to do is go to the bars every night. This is the future of medicine and it sucks donkey balls.

I've come to the point now where positive motivation skills just hasn't worked. I'm gonna pull out a can of whoop ass. "You didn't read that article I gave you? I just cancelled your vacation".

    OK, that was very therapeutic.

I remember what it was like when I was a crew trainer, and I'd come in for a 10AM-6PM shift, and the newbies from the morning crew didn't know how to switch over the grills from breakfast to lunch cooking. I was fed up. They had no motivation to learn because the old hands would do everything for them while they cleaned the lobby. They had to manage breakfast inventory carefully, and they didn't know basic concepts of bin management. Since they didn't have to close, they didn't know how to break down the machines and all of their working parts. They just wanted to go to their cars every night. I remember thinking that that was the future of McDonald's and it sucked McDonkey Balls (tm).

Eventually, it got to the point where positive motivation didn't work anymore. "You didn't watch the video on clamshell grill height transitions and teflon cooking surface installaton? I just assigned you to clean all of the Playland balls with Lysol and sani-wipes. You'd better get started!"

The skill of motivation, especially at the primary and secondary levels, is a defining attribute of a teacher. Very few people have it. That is why we make the big bucks.

Oh how I wish I were a better teacher. It is kinda silly that professionals with terminal degrees are aloud to teach, even though their degree offered little to no formal training in pedagogy. I've spent extra time getting this training, as watered down as it may be, as I expect to teach in my career.

I taught at least two classes every semester (save the Katrina semester) of my eight years of grad school, and I took several courses in second-language pedagogy and linguistics. You're out of your depth.

Is nobody else bothered by the fact that Robin wants to be able to put his penis in his mouth?

You think they should be restricted to teaching silently?
