Cool. What hardware are they using?

AMD Ryzen 5 5500
AMD Radeon RX 7600
B550M Pro Se motherboard

They bought a cheap security camera flatscreen monitor to replace the old crt. There are a few gaps between the monitor and shell, but fits pretty good all things considered.

My kids are sitting on the couch playing Mario Party on the Switch so pretty much the same

They've got a ~$500 video card, a ~$100 motherboard, ~$150 CPU, plus that power supply and flatscreen and they're trying to cram it into an old iMac shell with probably less than 15" of viewable screen space? I'm glad they're learning about stuff - that's a great thing, but it seems like a waste of new hardware to try and retrofit it into the iMac shell.

They picked out and paid for everything themselves except the video card. which I only paid about $250 for. Our youngest asked for it for Christmas. I thought he wanted it to upgrade the video card in the system he put together a few years ago. He didn't get the best one there because it was during the crypto craze when graphics cards were hard to come by and expensive when you could find them.Had I known, I may have gone for something cheaper.

Encouraging their interest in tech and electronics and making things is probably worth every penny. Maybe you can steer them towards an interest in robotics. From a technical disciplines perspective, robotics is the greatest field ever combining software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering.

Not to be ungrateful, the laptops are decent, but I would like something more robust. Anybody know of a computer place that would swap me 2 new in box 14 in laptops for 1 16 in laptop that is higher end?

Maybe my brother. He runs an IT business helping small businesses. Might be a bit further than he's willing to go, but if you have other IT needs maybe it makes sense for him to set some stuff up for you and help remotely when needed.

That would be cool, but we are literally getting there just before the reception and then taking off the next day after church. It's my sister's kid, so I ought to show up, even if briefly. But I'd still like to say hey if we can work something out.
