Yes, it worked out very well. The place was larger than we expected, had a really cool loft bedroom, a view over tiled rooftops towards the Vatican, and was nicely furnished. Apart from the lousy elevator service (typically small European elevator with even worse than typical Italian (un)reliability, if you can imagine) it was ideal.

Evening strolls around the Piazza with lots of locals, arm in arm (and man did I ever feel poorly dressed), the local food store that closes at lunch for a break for the workers was only 50 yards from our building, several restaurants on our street. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back.

I had a six scoop ice cream cone at least once every day for eight weeks in Piazza Navona. It is, quite simply, my favorite place on earth.

Funny you should ask. We are staying in a Rome flat right now.

It's a few minutes from Piazza Navona, and 10-20 minutes from the Pantheon, Varican, Colluseum, and the Forum. We found it to be a very good location for most of the popular sites.

The bed is comfortable. It's on the first floor. There's a kitchenette, but no washer or dryer. Nothing fancy, but was great for us. One of the best parts is that 'Uncle Franco' meets you at the flat and gives you a long intro and tour of the surroundings, so you know where restaurants, busstops, markets, etc are.

I recommend it.

Nothing really stood out to us in Rome for restaurants. But if you're near the pantheon, look for Giolitti's. Awesome gelato.

The only restaurant that I would recommend is a place that is near the American Embassy and the Church of the Bones on Via Vittorio Veneto. I don't remember the name but it is under ground level on the same road just outside the plaza. It is a bit americanized being close to the embassy but the prices are low and the food is good. There is a metro stop near by at the Barberini Plaza. There use to be a crazy guy who would dress up in funny clothes and spook foreigners as they walk by. Since I am going off of a 15 year memory, you are on your own.

Let me apologize in advance for not sharing any photos. I stopped taking photos on trips a couple years ago and haven't gone back to it. I have some philosophical reasons why but that's for another thread...
