Is Utah anything more than a commuter school w/ a good med school?

Since this very evenly debated topic has taken control, somewhat strangely, of the expansion thread, I thought I'd get it a new home.

My opinion? Thanks for asking - I'd say it's more. It's all that and amazing views in a city that's a lot cooler than it used to be.

Of course not. It is merely a diploma mill with a poorly run athletic program that contributes little to the betterment of the larger society. Nothing useful, and nobody of merit, could ever come from such an institution. It is an absolute travesty that such an academically deficient institution could ever be admitted to the PAC. I mean, just look at the SAT scores of incoming Freshmen! They may as well have selected Boise State for the PAC, at least Idaho is considered to be in the Northwest. I mean, ANYBODY can get accepted to that place.

You should try going with a light touch sometime.

You must be on one of your occasional acid flashbacks. Sometimes a strong touch is necessary.

I mean what kind of loser would EVER want to be seen at one of their football games?

That was my residency. My medical school was much better than Mayo's.

Nope. I'll try to preserve a small shred of anonymity and just say it's one of the Top 5 for US News Research Medical Schools right now.

Obviously there are total idiots that come out of the top schools and I work with some amazing Utah medical students all the time -- just trying to keep it interesting here.

Sorry for being an ass to our awesome U. Med grads on this board (and a lot of my family members), but it's mostly people who live in Utah who think the U. has a good medical school.

A quick perusal of US News shows the U. to be #54 out of 91 -- right between the well-known and prestigious medical institutions of U. Mass-Worcester and SUNY-Stony Brook.
