Is Utah anything more than a commuter school w/ a good med school?

... Now that I have kids in college and have gotten to know some of the families of their friends, I'm finding the great majority are paying for their kids college. Same is true for my non-LDS neighbors. But a straw poll of my LDS circle of friends show that most are expecting their kids to pay their own way through college.

Seems to be largely true from my experience as well. We're one of the few LDS families I know that are willing to pay 100% of our kids education....which is in line with the vast majority of our non-LDS neighbors.

As for the commuter aspect of Utah, that's the one sticking point my daughter has about Utah, although she really enjoyed her visit there recently. I think that's what makes the greek system so fundamental in her decision. Enjoyed USU visit as well. Didn't care for her BYU visit though.
