    Gigging Dress Code

So the faculty rock band is starting up again and...

I can't survive another year of Hawaiian shirts and flip flops. I felt like a clown.

I need to not wear tennis shoes. I think I feel sloppy in them and then I play sloppy.

I'm thinking I can pull off the leather vest, white shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots look. Except that I'm already 6'6" and in cowboy boots I'll be even taller.

Those of you who gig, or who have fashion sense for this kind of thing--please advise.

Without question, I could pull it off. Few people that I know could though...hey, if you can't pull off the Coolness look, you would just have to settle for the Village people look but that would only be accomplished if you took off the white shirt and just had the leather vest over the bare skin.

I'm sure Uncle Jesse will let you borrow all the stuff.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Agreed. The extra height will only add to the look. Find a worthy hat if you aren't going to have a worthy hair style.

I can't just wear what I wear every day--slacks, a collared shirt and dockers--and yet I want to feel comfortable.

It's not easy being a tall rock star, but you can make it work:

                    Eh.

The look wouldn't be country really. A little on the side of southern rock, maybe.

Sure you can! It worked for George Michael!

No to the vest yes to the boots. The alt-rock cowboy look is always a good look for us middle-aged rockers:

Jim Dalton, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers guitarist (and Rail Benders leadman), with the Peacemakers March 26/27, 2010 at Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ. (null)

Whatever you do don't try to look like today's popular bands. IT's always lame when us oldsters try to dress like an eighteen year old.
