I was walking around Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego this weekend, killing some time before my Grandfathers wake, and saw The Art of Shaving store. I instantly thought of Camleish and this thread, so I headed in.

After getting a full rundown on all the razors and brushes, etc... I walked out with this:

The razor is a Merkur Progress and the shaving brush is the silvertip badger handmade brush from Art of Shaving. The oil, shaving cream and aftershave lotion are Art of Shaving sandalwood.

I need to order some blades (they were out) but the razor came with a Merkur Platinum blade.

Wish me luck! (the salesman threw in a Alum block since I am a total newbie at shaving with a safety razor).

wow, awesome setup dt. my buddy is trying to get a small shaving website off the ground, but has had a very tough time competing with art of shaving. they make great stuff for relatively low prices. sandalwood is great, and smells manlier than that canned crap.

Alright, so I'm giving this safety razor thing a shot. After looking around online, I settled in with this safety razor.

I have a really cheap brush that I will replace at some point, but seems to work well for now.

I've got samples of the Art of Shaving - Sandwood shaving cream and the proraso shaving creem.

I'll have the blade in a couple of days, so we will see how this works out. I will note that going with the better quality shaving cream has already made a huge difference. I have also been using the Art of Shaving pre-shave and after-shave.

That dude just took over 5 minutes to shave, lathering up 3 different times.

This is why I use my trusty Gillette Fusion. Simple, easy, quick and good shave.

I shave as little as possible. I hate shaving. I hate the ingrown hairs I get at the bottom of my neck.

I get out hair clippers about once a week and shave it down to stubble, without going all the way to the skin because then I don't get the ingrown hairs.

I must be lucky. I use a twin blade Gillette everyday and am always clean shaven. I do like to experiment with shaving creams though. I'm currently using a NAPA Orange Hand Cleaner that puts a smooth slick sheen on the face which makes the blades glide like a horse on ice. I do have a bar of Kirk's Castle bar soap on hand which also puts down a nice shaving base. Nothing is as smooth as the non pumice orange hand cleaner though.

I shave every day except Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yes, I am going for the scruffy rebel look at church.

I use the quintipio ultra or whatever the hell the thing with five blades is. For the price I want it to do my taxes too. My wife claims it makes my skin smoother, so there's that.

I shave the chest (kramer's advice be damned!) about once a week, and do the mostly full body thing about once a month. I use a different razor for this - it is significantly more pink. The ladies definitely have us beat there.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

A horse on ice is neither smooth, reassuring nor without significant risk of injury to all in the immediate vicinity. You might want to consider another analogy.
