Anyone's answer changed? My employer's charitable foundation hosts a black tie event every year and I hate wearing rented clothes. Thinking of going out and buying a tux. Anyone done it? I don't want to spend $3k for a bespoke one but am ok spending a decent amount. I figure when they hit me up for a donation I will just point to the tux and say "This is my donation this year" so I won't come out too far behind. Recommendations on where to buy or anything else welcome.

I got mine at DI. I got my tails for my recital, thinking I would then be singing in a lot more situations requiring tails from one of the tux shops in Provo, used. Even though I no longer fit it, it is the one thing I cannot bring myself to get rid of.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostResurrecting this very popular thread.

Are you a fairly standard off-the-rack size as far as jackets go?Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostResurrecting this very popular thread.

It's the right season to buy a dinner jacket, as many places have surplus from the last holiday season. Head over to Jos A Bank and snag a clearance jacket. Like this one:Originally posted by Clark Addison View Post
Yeah, I generally get a 42S or something close to that. My arms are roughly the same length, so I have that going for me.

Paired with a waistcoat and some black slacks, you got yourself a tux on the cheap. (FYI, on Jos A Bank fits: Tailored fit is a fairly standard cut. Slim is on the slim side but still doable for me. Skinny is for really skinny dudes)
But if you're really wanting a full tux, they have some options there as well:

How many upcoming marriages do you have that you could reasonably wear a tux for? That might make the money more palatable.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostResurrecting this very popular thread.
