Social media posts have shown increased flooding near the Houston Texas LDS Temple this past weekend. Although the temple is not currently in any imminent danger, many have been offering prayers for the safety of the building on Twitter and Facebook. According to weather.com, torrential rains are expected to continue over the next several days in the surrounding area and parts of Houston received over 2 feet of rain in just the past 24 hours.

Satan controls the water, right? He's just trying to circumvent the recommend process to get into the temple.Originally posted by Moliere View PostThe Desnews needs to update their article

Where's the stacks of sandbags? Can't sit around waiting for the 3 Nephites to show up; sometimes when we ask God to move a mountain, God may give us a shovel (to use to fill up sandbags).Originally posted by Moliere View PostThe Desnews needs to update their article

Maybe all the men were thinking "if the temple floods, it'll be closed for a number of months and my wife won't be able to buy me about not going often enough"Originally posted by Lost Student View PostWhere's the stacks of sandbags? Yeah, that will just be replaced with your bishop bugging with extra temple cleaning assignments.Originally posted by Moliere View PostMaybe all the men were thinking "if the temple floods, it'll be closed for a number of months and my wife won't be able to buy me about not going often enough"

Thankfully those assignments are almost universally held in the middle of a workday so the few 70 year old retirees in teh ward get to fill them. Molly, what does this mean for you? With the reports of another hit by the storm, I'm worried for you and your family. Please take care.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Thankfully that reservoir doesn't affect my home or my area. That reservoir is down off I-10 closer to the Katy/Cinco Ranch area. They are doing controlled releases from that dam and the Baker dam so help stop the possibility of the dams breaking or the reservoir overflowing. The problem with that is the released water is heading straight into Buffalo Bayou, which is the bayou that is causing most of the horrendous flooding and most of the scarier pictures. The two dams were built to control flooding on the bayou, but no one ever thought we'd get a storm like this. I was around last year during the tax day floods but we missed Ike as we were on vacation at the time. The water levels caused by Harvey have surpassed all records everywhere.
I woke up this morning to a CNN alert that there is 15 more inches forecast in Houston
All weather reports show that today will only be around 3 inches adn tomorrow the rain should stop. That doesn't mean the flooding will stop, but unless the storm circles back around we should be out of the worst of the rain. I guess CNN really is fakenews
The response from Houstonians has been incredible though. There are plenty of bad apples, but for the most part everyone is just tyring to help, but we are all limited to what we can do. Many, many members in the stake are taking their fishing boats out and rescuing everyone from flooded areas. People are floating in their boats down roads that last week we were driving down, and the water is sometimes up to peoples chest. It's just unfathomable. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't been out in Baton Rouge last year mucking homes that had flood water up to their ceilings.
As of now, my Moliere house is safe and sound. We had a small leak in the roof yesterday morning but it was slow and I have maybe an inch of water in a bucket from it. We lost power Sunday night for about an hour but since then it's only flickered a little bit but has stayed on. Our streets have never been in danger of flooding as the retention ponds have done their job. Our water is clean thanks in part to the power being on in our neighborhood, but after Ike the MUD district bought back up generators for the water system so even if the power went out we'd still have treated water.
The hardest part of this has been my anxiety, which has flared up a bit and made it hard to sleep or eat, but I've forced myself to do both. I started to feel much better last night after one of the hopefully last remaining torrential downpours hit. Also, the kids are stir crazy since we are confined to the house/neighborhood, but when they start fighting we just send them outside if the rain isn't too bad and they are happy to get wet and play in the rain."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. That's good to hear. Yeah, CNN last night was all over the storm swinging back to dump more precip, but then I just looked at Washington Post and they are reporting the storm is on its way to Lousy-Anna.

Rain has stopped. Sun is almost out. I briefly saw a sliver of blue sky.
