I wish the LDS Church would adopt the "round of applause" model. Like a broadway play, the better or more important moms will receive longer ovations, maybe even standing ovations.

We should also be permitted to boo if we believe someone is performing poorly.

LOL. I think it's safe to say that women are more sentimental to Mother's Day than men are to Father's Day.

Mothers Day is huge. Breakfast planned out, gifts at church, primary singing, special talks, special dinner, a call from their missionary son and thoughtful gifts from all family members.

Fathers Day not so much. Put some meat on a plate and let him watch the U.S Open in peace and that is all he asks for.

The United States celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May. Julia Ward Howe first issued her Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870 as a call for women to join in support of disarmament. In the 1880s and 1890s there were several further attempts to establish an American Mother's Day, but these didn't succeed beyond the local level. The current holiday was created by Anna Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1908 as a day to honor one's mother. Jarvis wanted to accomplish her mother's dream of making a celebration for all mothers, although the idea didn't take off until she enlisted the services of wealthy Philadelphia merchant John Wanamaker. She kept promoting the holiday until President Woodrow Wilson made it an official national holiday in 1914. The holiday eventually became so highly commercialized that many, including its founder, Anna Jarvis, considered it a "Hallmark Holiday", i.e. one with an overwhelming commercial purpose. Jarvis eventually ended up opposing the holiday she had helped to create. She died in 1948, regretting what had become of her holiday. first i wish a happy mothers day for all, i think in my life my mom was more influenced.. they hard worked for our family..so she is always motivating me to think about a good future..so i am always responsible to save my family.. i am so enjoying this responsibility..

I managed to work in Beastie Boys lyrics over the pulpit today. I was conducting and did the obligatory mention of it being Mother’s Day. Then said “to all the mothers, and sisters, and wives, and friends, I want to offer our love and respect”. I left of “to the end” thinking that would be a bit too obvious.
