The low oil prices is starting to hit close to home...

Crude oil's collapse will cost 9,000 jobs at Schlumberger

Oilfield services giant Schlumberger plans to cut 9,000 jobs as the global collapse in crude oil prices crimps production in 2015 and perhaps even longer.

The cuts — nearly 8% of Schlumberger's 120,000 workers, were announced Thursday "to better align with anticipated activity levels for 2015,'' the company said.

With production surging and waning growth, the world is awash with oil. That's led to a collapse in prices that's taken benchmark crude price down more than 50% since last June. Thursday, West Texas Intermediate fell 4.6% to $46.22 a barrel, while Brent crude slipped 2% to $47.67. Yet many forecasters say crude isn't close to bottoming.

I'm probably being hasty, but I'm polishing my resume and linkedin profile today. There is only one lawyer at my company who has less experience than me, and she is very well connected.
You guys have been hit harder than us, especially looking at the 1-5 year returns. Our legal guy in Houston is relocating so maybe it's time for you to come back home to Houston

Isn't it in his best interest to say it will stay low so that the shale and oil sands operations pack up shop? Like anyone else, he has no way of knowing future prices.

That being said, all my brothers are in oil or related fields and are feeling it. Best of luck to you GM and anyone else in the field.

Q: What is moving prices? Is this a supply or a demand story? Some say there's too much oil in the world, and that is pressuring prices. But others say the global economy is slow, so it's weak demand.

A: It is both. We have an oversupply. Iraq right now is producing very much. Even in Libya, where they have civil war, they are still producing. The U.S. is now producing shale oil and gas. So, there's oversupply in the market. But also demand is weak. We all know Japan is hovering around 0% growth. China said that they'll grow 6% or 7%. India's growth has been cut in half. Germany acknowledged just two months ago they will cut the growth potential from 2% to 1%. There's less demand, and there's oversupply. And both are recipes for a crash in oil. And that's what happened. It's a no-brainer.
It is that SoB Bush's fault!

But our lowest octane is still a level above states like Utah who charge 10 cents more for 87. I guess that's why our air is so much cleaner.

    Pretty sure I'm being gouged.

Ok maybe not. I've noticed that in the area of 12600 south in Draper that prices are still in the $2.20 range.
