A pretty enlightening article on why rising gas prices might be a good thing. I just wish someone would have put this much thought and analysis into the situation 4 years ago when Bush was in office.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

I am at the point of my life where I work mainly from home. In addition, as more of our kids leave the nest we have less of a need for our large gas-sucking SUV that seats 9 (thanks to a few mods I made). As soon as they let me out of the YM's we won't really have a reason to keep it and will trade it in on an electric golf cart.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostA pretty enlightening article on why rising gas prices might be a good thing. That article was absolute horseshit. There is absolutely no reason to ever be happy about gas being $5/gallon.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostA pretty enlightening article on why rising gas prices might be a good thing. We shop at Smith's and always seem to have credit for the discount they give you. My wife usually uses that. I'm too lazy to plan ahead like that so I just get gas wherever. Last tank I bought was 3.77 (vs. the 3.35 at Smith's)
Headed to CA this weekend. Probably should pick up some Vaseline to take along with me ..."It's true that everything happens for a reason. Just remember that sometimes that reason is that you did something really, really, stupid."

The GM chief thinks it should be a $1 higher...
General Motors Co. CEO Dan Akerson wants the federal gas tax boosted as much as $1 a gallon to nudge consumers toward more fuel-efficient cars, and he's confident the government will soon shed its remaining 26 percent stake in the once-bankrupt automaker.
[...]
And while he is eager to say goodbye to the government as a part owner of GM, Akerson would like to see it step up to the challenge of setting a higher gas tax, as part of a comprehensive energy policy.
A government-imposed tax hike, Akerson believes, will prompt more people to buy small cars and do more good for the environment than forcing automakers to comply with higher gas-mileage standards."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Just when you thought gas prices were going to come back down....
OPEC oil talks collapse, no output deal
VIENNA (Reuters) – OPEC talks broke down in acrimony on Wednesday without an agreement to raise output after Saudi Arabia failed to convince the oil cartel to lift production.
"We were unable to reach an agreement -- this is one of the worst meetings we have ever had," said Ali al-Naimi, oil minister for Saudi Arabia, OPEC's biggest producer.
The failure to do a deal is a blow for consumer nations hoping the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries would take action to stem fuel inflation.
It also underlines concerns about OPEC's willingness to help control prices, perhaps leaving the oil market more open to speculative attack.
"It is absolutely amazing," said Alirio Parra, Venezuela's former OPEC president. "This is not market leadership.
Brent crude rose $1.30 a barrel to $118.08.
The United States had put pressure on Saudi to deliver a credible deal to cap crude prices and underpin faltering economic growth."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
