    2011 SI swimsuit issue

Is this a bad time to bring this up? Any way I found it interesting that Esti Ginzburg, who I think has a real future with this SI swimsuit thing, is a member of the Israeli army.

On joining the army Ginzburg said: "Military service is part of the things I personally believe in."

But seriously I'm amazed at the phenomenon this swimsuit issue has become. My father promised me if I kept my grades up in fourth grade he would get me SI and I wouldn't have to go to the library any more to read it. He had no idea the joy he would bring to his son every February when that issue would show up. Cheryl Tiegs in that fishnet swimsuit left an impression in my mind that wouldn't go away. The letters they would receive two weeks later were pretty funny also. After nearly forty years of being a subscriber to SI I'm still not sure what having beautiful models in swimsuits has to do with sports but it seems to be working for them.

isnt military service mandatory for israelis? or at least israeli young men when they turn 18? Almost like going on a mission. For some reason I thought it was.

Yes. Men serve 3 years. Women 2.

she was drafted into the idf, where service is compulsory, but a lot of upper class women will do things like get married for a couple of years in order to avoid service.

I remember my mom would always hide the SI swimsuit issue from the men and it was our mission to try to find where she put it. We pretty much always succeeded. One time she had already removed the cover. No big loss. Good times.

Not sure why she didn't just throw it out. Maybe she wanted to read the articles.

I would say that the SI Swimsuit issue reached its cultural peak in the pre-internet era, though.

Did it already come? My wife always throws it out as soon as it appears in the mail. One of her holdovers of Mormon Puritanness (Puritanity?). I should just request that they not send me that issue, so I could get an additional free issue, but I don't want to deprive her of her righteous joy.

                  A haiku:

                  Stephanie Seymour

I have no clue whether any of these women are attractive because I don't know if they are smart. I will withhold comments until I can see some sort of CV or at least a transcript of some sort.
