I’ve been playing Beach Boys songs the last few days. It reminds me of listening to the oldies radio station with my parents when I was a child.

Just after my mission, I was afraid if worldly music. I only played two tapes in my car’s tape deck: Phantom of the Opera, and The Beach Boys Greatest hits. Not sure I’ve intentionally listened to them in 23.5 of the 24 years since I got home, but they kept me from spiritual crocodiles in those early months!!!

I get they aren't for everyone, but overrated? They have great songs, great harmonies, and they laid a blue print present in most modern music.

How could you not love this (not even a Brian Wilson composition)?

What criteria are you using for that? Pretty sure I've never ranked the greatest pop songs ever written. While I like that song, it wouldn't be particularly close to the top of my list.

Because modern pop music was perfected on the early 69s and countless pop artists that followed us this song as a blue print. But I'm by no means the expert here. That being said, there are some wild music takes here.

Because top gun was released when I was so young, I had a real aversion to Val Kilmer. No matter what, all I saw was that a-hole Ice Man. FWIW, I had the same attitude towards Catherine O'Hara (i.e. Kevin McCallister's negligent and unpleasant mother).

Same but then you grow up and get some responsibility and realize Maverick was the a-hole and Ice Man is the one you would want on your team in battle.
