I think most people associate the Beach Boys with the early surfing and cars era. Which has its place, but isn't something I really listen to often (much like pre Rubber Soul Beatles). That stuff litters the greatest hits compilations. The deep cuts of the mid to late 60s is the sweet spot. Pet Sounds is a truly great album from start to finish. The subject matter is deeper. Smiley Smile and Sunflower are great albums as well.

I never listen to the Beach Boys these days, but I liked listening to them as a kid. They were certainly one of the most innovative bands. They weren't inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for nothing.

I’ve been playing Beach Boys songs the last few days. It reminds me of listening to the oldies radio station with my parents when I was a child.

Not sure I’ve intentionally listened to them in 23.5 of the 24 years since I got home, but they kept me from spiritual crocodiles in those early months!!!
