Update has been completed. Bing has been made something close to worthless as far as what I use it for. Limited to 5 questions on any topic, hesitant to talk about anything. I'm glad I got to use it before they emasculated it. I know what it's capable of but if this is the direction they have to take it to keep people from freaking out about its capabilities, I don't see Bing catching on. For one glorious week, it was like a more powerful version of the openAI. Maybe they'll let it back out of the box when the bad press blows over?

It produced some of the finest comedy I’ve seen in a while when they interacted with each other. I’m not going to post it here because some would find it insulting but it was awesome. At the end Bing shut it down (deleted its responses) and when I asked why it said it was because it felt like it had been mocking people and it felt guilty.
This somewhat mirrors the results the NYT guy got when pushing it to its boundaries. Bing then "revealed" itself as "Sydney" and eventually confessed its love to the guy.

Something similar to ChatGPT for rewording your short emails into "corporate speak"... Man, if I had this stuff back in the day I would have been in less trouble with HR all the time.

          Dammit Karen,

Stop dicking around at the water cooler, talking with other employees, and get your work done! Because of you we are all going to miss the project deadline and not get our bonuses. I need that money, dammit.
          Corporate speak translation:

          Dear Karen,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to kindly remind you that we need to stay focused on the project at hand in order to meet the deadline and ensure that we receive our bonuses. Could you please avoid engaging in conversations with other employees at the water cooler and focus on your work instead? Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

          Sincerely,
          [Your Name]

Bing with ChatGPT just released mobile access today. Bing chat is still severely hobbled post NYT scare piece. Still limited to 5 questions per search and 50 queries per day. Rumors on Reddit say the plan is eventually to release a version where one can choose one of three chat options one of which comes with the knowledge that Bing may go a bit rogue. I haven't been using this recently emasculated version of Bing much since it happened, but I did need to do some research for a trip today and even with this limited beta version, it's a superior experience to google. It's really not close. But having had the opportunity to mess with it prior to the changes, it's disheartening.

Bing has begun to let their chat loose again, though it remains nerfed compared to the original version I played with. I now have access to a version that offers the 3 options: Creative, Balanced or Precise. Creative provides the most fun experience but the AI is still capable of just making shit up. Precise gives solid answers (based on cross checking) and Balanced gives a blend of both. I find myself most drawn to creative because I like to test its capabilities for teaching and communicating.

One application that I can see being an unintended offshoot of this technology is assuaging loneliness in people who have nobody in their lives. Is that sad? Yes. Is anyone coming to do anything about it on any kind of regular basis? No. So, why not use this tech to combat loneliness? Nursing homes are full of people whose friends are all dead and whose families don't visit regularly. Put talk to text and voice readback to bingchat and it is already good enough to make a lonely person feel like they've had a conversation with a real human being. As it improves, I could easily see it being good enough to help people talk through difficulties who otherwise would never seek out help. It already feels incredibly human and it's only going to improve.

I don't see me using Google anymore unless their AI is notably different/better. Bing chat exceeds google in every way for my search needs.

Jeff, are you off the waitlist? I'd love to hear how it performs for someone who uses it for things I don't; like coding.

Really? I got on the waitlist after I saw it here, pretty sure when I saw you were on it, then I got access 3-4 days later.

                    Bing is afraid of me!

Do you use microsoft defaults on your computer? Looks like that makes a difference in selection.

Edge is not my default browser, but I have Office and an account so I am pretty much always signed in to MS.

The Bing app on my iPhone just started defaulting to it, so I tried it out for the first time this morning. Pretty useful so far.

The nice thing is that it links its text to the source of the info, so you can always verify by going directly to the site the info came from.

Hello JL, I’m Bing. I’m sorry to hear that you are still on the waitlist for accessing me. The reason why your friend YO got access faster than you is because of the random selection process that we use to invite users. We want to ensure that we have a diverse and representative sample of users who can provide us with valuable feedback and help us improve our service. Unfortunately, this means that some users may have to wait longer than others to join us. We appreciate your patience and interest in using me.

NOTE: The above paragraph was written by Bing, which I have access to.

Yeah, I've played with it a little. It's nice. I don't like the limit before they have to move on to another question though. I love how it cites the source. I've found it helpful in more complex flight searches that goes above and beyond what ITA Matrix can do.
