Other then sex what are some of the things you do together? We have three months until we kick our youngest out of the house and I'm more than a little afraid we are going to look at each other and ask "okay what now". I've tried to drag her into my sports world but that hasn't always gone so smoothly. She enjoys stuff like garage sales and watching old reruns on TV like "Little House of the Prairie". Honestly I would rather get kicked in the nuts than do either one of those. I'm worried.

My wife likes attending BYU football and basketball games with me so that is nice.

We keep trying to be "empty nesters", but the kids keep coming back, so we say that we're at the revolving door stage instead. Two more years of school, locally for our youngest before she's finally done with school. At least she's acting more like an adult now.

Things that my wife and I do together:

• We like to go to live plays, usually musicals put on locally. But this is only once every month or two. We prefer to support the local theater groups as much as possible.
• Travel to interesting locations, usually tropical. We'll go on vacation a couple of times a year on average, often to Hawaii or Mexico, but we went on an Alaskan cruise less than a year ago and plan to visit the Bahamas at the end of the year.
• Go on day trips to interesting places in the area. Recent ones include Yosemite, Highway 1 south from Monterey to Cambria. We'll go to San Francisco for a day once in a while. We'll also drive through the local mountains to enjoy the changing seasons.
• Visit grandchildren. Since none of my married kids live close by, we go visit them once or twice a year in Las Vegas, Northern Utah, and Fresno. The closer ones get more visits.
• Attend local art festivals, parades, music concerts, and other things put on by the local towns.

We also make sure to participate in separate activities as well. She likes to attend various ethnic festivals, like American Indian, India Indian, Hawaiian (I would have gone to that one if I wasn't doing something else), Scottish games, and stuff like that. She will also take separate trips to visit friends and relatives for a few days while I have to work.

I'll go off on motorcycle rides regularly, which my wife has no interest in, but doesn't mind me doing.

I think it works out better if you don't try to spend all of your spare time doing things together, but find things that you both enjoy.

RC, I'm a little surprised your wife doesn't ride. As you're aware, that's something Mrs. PAC and I do at least weekly. No doubt you're a much stronger rider, but wouldn't a tandem work well with you two?

We love to travel and fortunately have similar styles--walk fast and cover as much ground as possible; we'll enjoy the photos and relax when we get back.

Wow. I'm the complete opposite end of the spectrum. By the time I'm 42, I'll have kids of 18, 14 and 11.

I second PAC's suggestion: Try a tandem. You should borrow one or rent one for a couple weeks. Take it out at least four or five times. It works great for my wife and I.

She'll be off to college when I'm 43. Granted, she wants to stay here for college, but plans on going elsewhere for graduate school. 47, and an empty house. 46 if she takes lots of classes. woo hoo!
