For or against? After reading that vacation thread it sounds like some would be better off taking separate vacations. How bad would it be?

If I brought up this idea, I would be accused of wanting to take a vacation from my wife and kids. I don't need a vacation getting me in any trouble.

We've had to do it a few times because our schedules couldn't mesh, and the other one could get a lot of work done with the kiddie out of the house.

          Separate vacations suck.

I vote yes, separate from my inlaws.

The men in my family do Man Trips and the women do their own version. My favorite was when my brothers and I drove to PHX by way of southeastern Utah. We stopped in Monticello and golfed (very good course in Monticello), hit Monument Valley in the daytime to avoid the Skinwalkers, and then holed up for three days of golf and pool time at a Marriott resort.

I highly recomment the Man Trip.

I've already seen this episode of the King of Queens.
                Spoiler for the result:
It didn't work out as they planned.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

My married buddies get to go on gofling man trips if they go with me. The wives have all expressed to me that they know if I am along on the trip, there will be no gambling, drinking or visits to strip clubs. They know what a straight arrow I am.

A golf trip and no gambling. How naive are these wives?

We do separate vacations and they are awesome. I do stuff I want, usually BYU related, and she goes and visits her parents. I don't have to see them, and she doesn't go with me to see my dad. Win win win.

You spend a week away from each other and when you get back you are recharged and glad to be around each other.

Speaking of that...she could probably use a vacation from me right now. I have a major asshole streak right now. I am not playing very nice and I don't know why.

Here's a summary of our vacation schedule this year:

Spring break - me and family 2 days in Fresno, then me - drive back to work for the next 5 days, family - spends 5 days in San Diego on the beach and at legoland

May - annual extended mothers day weekend trip for our whole family to the coast for a bike ride and beach day

June - School gets out, me - continues to work, wife and kids - drive to Utah to see friends then to Wyoming and Montana to see family. But I took a half day off to go on a bike ride, so we're all even at this point. Then again, I didn't have to drive 3,000 miles, so i come out on top of this one.

July - week long trip to northern california and southern oregon coast - whole family with some friends

July/aug - CUF bike ride in Bend, oregon for me. wife stays with kids (her choice)

So, we vacation both together and separate. Her own vacations typical involve time off from school with me needed to continue working. It works out just fine.

I think we all stopped reading after that because we were filled with jealousy.
