It's time for a new pair of black dress shoes. After three years of regular (2-3 times a week) use, the leather sole is falling off my current pair. I don't feel like having them repaired, as i'm sick of the squared toe. Truthfully, I've been sick of the squared toe for a couple years, but couldn't justify buying a new pair of shoes when the ones I had were in perfectly good condition.

Anywho, now that I'm in need of a new pair, I'm open to suggestions and opinions as to what's hot and what's not. Winged tip? Cap toe? Medallion? Tassle Loafers (Ugh)? Boat shoes (With a suit? I hope not.)? Convince me.

Keep in mind, these are something I'll wear 2-3 times per week (essentially when i'm not wearing my brown dress shoes) and will be paired with either a suit or slacks, so durability, comfort and flexibility (style-wise) and are all factors to consider.

I went to the podiatrist today for my heel spur; it's been hurting badly since I'm not taking narcotics regularly anymore. His first question, "Dude, how old are your shoes?"

Me----"Ummm, Dec, 08."

Him---"Dude, get some new shoes. Look how that one is sitting sideways; no wonder your heel hurts."

So, next time I go to Charlotte, I guess I'll go to Dick's in Matthews and get some new, what is it the young punks call them, "kicks?"

I've got a pair of cap toe shoes with lug Vibram soles. Very comfy. Durability seems good but I don't wear them as often as you.

Depends. My usual m.o. is to find a style I like from a name brand and then see if I can't find a similar style for cheaper at an overstock type place. It doesn't always work, though, as often the styles carried by the overstock-type places are a bit dated and don't correspond with the current styles.

I'd probably go as high as $125 for a quality pair, but I would definitely have some buyer's remorse about spending that much on dress shoes unless I absolutely loved them.

Hmmmm. quality often starts at $125... Planning on being in Phoenix anytime soon? The last 3 or 4 pairs of dress shoes I've purchased have come from Last Chance in Phoenix. I don't think I've paid more than $40, sometimes $30. I have 3 pairs of Cole Haan and one Hugo Boss (which I'm not crazy about, but they were only $30!).

I share your issue though. I hate spending a lot of money on shoes that I don't absolutely love.

I think you should check out DSW for some Mezlans. They had some there last year that were similar to these:

They have the air sole, but its not visible (not from the side or back, anyway). My Nike Cole Haans are the most comfortable dress shoes I've ever owned.

For $22 you can get a sweet pair o' black dress shoes at any Wal-Mart in this great nation. The brand? George. The look? Fantastic. You can also pick up a suit to go with them for less than $50.
