Ping pong players?

Anyone dabble?

I dusted off my table and can't seem to get enough. Although it is difficult to find the type of player I would like to play, one that keeps the ball on the board and knows the rules and etiquette of table tennis.

Same here....I love it. I have a table myself...but only have daughters and they aren't much interested. Our table at work has been taken down due to remodeling....but, table tennis is da bomb!

What do you think I did on my mission? If you go to Asia on a mission and don't come back a ping pong pro, something's wrong with you. Ohio, I'm very impressed. Intense. I haven't played hardly at all since my mission, but I love the game. My game was to stand back 10 or 15 ft off the table and return slams with high spin and win with patience.

We used the the Asian style racket where you use the same side for forehand and backhand. But I haven't seen those style rackets anywhere, even with Asian players. Are they still used?

Yes...I use the same style. My father learned in the army while in Japan. I don't suggest learning this way, as I think it's more of a disadvantage...but it is a fun style and you can get some killer forehand shots/slams. I love it.

I bought my racket online and it only has rubber on one side. I'm kind of a novelty at work when we play. Funny.

Mostly at the Provo club. thurs nights at the (don't laugh) Eldred Senior Center where we rent out a large space, and keep the tables/barriers there. 5:30--9:20 though the bulk of the action starts picking up closer to 6 or 6:30. $2.50 per night.

Let me know if you (or anyone else here) wants to come and I'll introduce you around a bit. Loads of fun, some really great players.

There are also clubs in SLC (fri nights), PG (Wed nights, but fewer tables), and the BYU one on tues nights.

Sure, lots still use them. Jpen (japanese penhold) paddles usually only have rubber on one side.

I'd love to come by and check it out on a Thursday night. I actually work late in Provo on those days so I'll be around. Can I just stop by and watch? I'd be too intimidated to actually play anyone that good.
